What's so amazing about DirectX10. Is it all hype? The reason I'm asking is that I'm wanting to upgrade my pc. Can find some nice high end directx9 graphics cards for the same kind of price as the new Directx10 8500 and 8600. Which would be better? Generally I like going for the top of the range card and even when it's a category below they tend to run a bit better. Can't afford the 8800 one either. Thanks

Do you have Windows Vista? Are you planning to buy it in the next year?

If the answer is no, then you wont be able to use DX10 anyway...

No, don't have it. As for planning to buy it, probably not anytime soon. Main reason I ask is I'm probably likely to upgrade to Vista before I upgrade my pc again. Think I'm over-analysising now though.

Thansk for the response.

chill out there monami

bri for the moment vista is not good hey give it a few months then buy it

just about everyone i know is moving back over to xp

Ya, Vista not rocking my world right now either. It's nice for browsing and watching movies though...:p

So, how does having Vista make watching movies and browsing nicer than XP or are you just being funny?

Yeah, I am being funny. :p

For me, Vista runs faster than XP(thinks like encoding and unzipping and copying and such), and it is prettier. More than that, not much.

Vista works fine for me. there's no way I could ever go back to xp. My games also run fine since the last 2 nvidia driver releases.

Still running Vista. But only because I'm too lazy to go back to XP. Also with Hellgate: London coming out in June, Bioshock in August and then Crysis and UT3 coming out in September I might as well stick with Vista.

Not forgetting that for better visuals, DX10 is faster still :D

Think I'll wait until the "early adopter premium" is a bit less. The 8800 looks like a awesome card and DX10 i am sure will be worth it just a bit expensive at the moment.

well dx10 is still new, so wait a year for developers to really use it. and even better is that the ati cards are gonna have dx10.1, (which is like dx9 vs dx9b)... and the budget ati's will be more powerful... only the thing is that they still only 128 bit bus...

Not forgetting that for better visuals, DX10 is faster still :D

No dam way!!!!!! :D:D:D if its faster then Im really stoked.

How much will Vista set one back anyway??? Is it worth buying now or will some waiting save me a few hundred bucks??

Oh and wheres the best place to buy it?? I haven't noticed it on the shelves but then again I haven't really been looking until now when I saw those screenshots!!

BTW I have the 8800gts so im almost set :D

You could get a DSP version of Home Premium from Prophecy for just over R1K I think or your could go retail version for R1,115 or pay like 2X that for the retail version.

Or if that's too much Home Basic will do as well as that's also got DX10 :)
