I have set up a user to use the squid proxy service on a client's network . when they try to visit web sites like www.mg.co.za or even www.gumtree.co.za they get the user authentication box .after authenticating and selecting the remember my password option . the user gets the error that they are prohibited from accessing that particular web page .would the user be able to browse these web sites if i deleted their user account from the /etc/squid/.passwd .

If there are other sites blocked and www.mg.co.za grabs info off of them, then they will be denied access. Eg if you visit news24.com, there is a sidebar for sport24.com. If sport24.com is blocked then you'll see an endless authentication prompt and eventually you will be denied access even though you're allowed to visit news24.com.

.would the user be able to browse these web sites if i deleted their user account from the /etc/squid/.passwd .

AFAIK I they won't. The exclusionip will need to be populated if you prefer to not use usernames.

Stuff I know about squid has been self taught so my knowledge will not be as abundant as some others here.

Both websites use a CDN to deliver content. MG uses cdn.cloudfiles.rackspacecloud.com and GT uses classistatic.com (Akamai).

Remove the auth access list form the squid and use a IP based access list for the clients lan. Then Squid will not require auth.
