I added an outgoing allow all rule, I will see if that made a difference.

That's what I meant, the rules etc. It will make a difference

teraside, Hackers need something to hack into.. like an open port. If I don't have any open ports other than the ones windows uses (which are hopefully secured by being 100% up-to-date with updates) then surely it would be incredibly difficult for a hacker to get in?

Sure there are windows vulnerabilities, but the chances of a hacker having the knowledge of a vulnerability not yet patched is surely rather slim.

Or am I missing something?

It's the hackers that find all these vulnerabilities, so I'd be worried
