Hey hey

I have a problem that caused me endless frustration the other day. I get disconnected during raids (even BG's) when there is to much going on. We ran MH and even the first pull i got DC'd.

I have a shaped webafrica account (cant afford unshaped at this point in time :p) on 2.5mb DSL. Average between 600-800ms

My addons are :
X-perl unit frames
CT mod
Cartographer
Auctioneer
Enchantrix
QuestHelper
Bagnon
Atlas loot + maps

My PC is more than capable of running wow:
AMD 6000+ X2,
2gb DDR 800,
8800GTS 320mb.

I was recommeneded turning down all my gfx which helped a little bit but still got DC'd. I eventually turned off 90% of my mods which made my game look terrible, this also helped a little but still got dc'd during aoe fights.

Any ideas on how i could fix this  Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Gday,

I've got the exact same problem, I'm on unshaped, I've done everything possible to fix the issue, up'd and downed my line speed, new hardware, even bought a Wimax connection and it does exactly the same thing on multiple and different computers.

The only thing that helped me (and it doesnt eliminate the problem totally but does reduce the number of Dc's I get substantially).

Firstly get rid of Questhelper and maybe Cartograher when you raid, then make this macro:

/run COMBATLOG:UnregisterEvent("COMBAT_LOG_EVENT")

Use the macro after you've zoned into a instance, it disables your combat log which causes alot of gimping of your system. It will remain disabled until you relog or you can use another macro to enable it again...

/run COMBATLOG:RegisterEvent("COMBAT_LOG_EVENT")

Lemme know if it helps.

Questhelper is a know Dc'er especially if it isn't a current version. I always disable it for any raid/bg

But generally addons usually only nuke frame rates not the line.

I had the same issues lately on Webafrica unshaped. It occurs often when there is international problems and you sit with data coming through in bursts. Like Sageville mentioned, that tip he posted above, would help a lot when it comes down to processing data your PC has to do when data waves come through in bursts.
I ended up switching all my graphics details down, even lowering the resolution I played at.

To make things worse we were doing an immortal run that night + completing the "Shocking" achievement. Luckily there were some workarounds we could do, which made it more tolerable.

Also I have to add I had **slightly** less disconnects on Verizon vs Saix.
There are more expensive solutions which also help, like eg. KillerNIC cards... the buffering + processing they offer also makes things slightly better.

Edit - Turning of certain addons also help... eg. recount. When your system is lagging behind due to inconsistent data bursts, it also has to sync with other recount users to ensure the data capture is accurate. Requesting data from other recount users also makes things worse, since your PC is already playing catching up with the other users in the raid. Its more than likely WoW has some built in mechanism, where it sees a massive burst of incoming traffic as a DOS attack hence it drops you from the server.

It certainly is very weird.
I am running on a very decent Telkom ADSL line and my computer is more than enough to handle wow (In fact I am multi-boxer so I can run 5 wow clients on the same PM and play with mediocre results).

Normally I only dual box (two wow clients) - 1 on each monitor.

However during certain graphic intensive parts - the one that I can remember the most is during the Nefarian fight when he hits 30% and all the constructs spawn, normally 1 or both of my characters just get disconnected.

Not sure why but don't worry, you are not alone :)

its the shadowing effects set that to zero,
2ndly it can be to many addons if your lacking RAM, turn your GFX and addons down, I Myself never raided with addons or anything similar due to this reason
It might also be the obvious telkom connection, if you don't have adsl, don't expect not to dc.

I don't get DC'd during encounters, but often zone'ing in to Dalaran or going out of Naxx etc.. the loading bar gets to fully loaded then just hangs there until I'm booted to disconnect.

This is using an unshaped account, as soon as I move over to my Mweb normal account there are never any issues, but obviously an extra 300-400ms.

I was using Axxess semi-unshaped, so moved over to WA and both the saix and verizon accounts still have the issues...

It's something to do with using an unshaped account, but can't figure out what.

Thinking more about it now, my mweb account is on my router, but I dial up from my PC when using the unshaped accounts, so other PC's on my network won't use the unshaped account b/w.

Might have something to do with that?

Disable all mods that broadcast / do server queries / rely on combat log.

Main culprits from your list are..
Cartographer
Recount
Quest helper

Turn of Auctioneer and associated mods while you there.

its addons the intervene with the mpq files, you often have to delete them and not disable them.

I always run in windows mode. Last night I changed it to full screen and had my first DC in weeks (on the four horseman - 25 man)....very weird as my PC definitely has the juice to handle that fight...

I've had the exact same thing - I would get DC'd during Grobbulus fights and not be able to relog - even though my alts log fine.

I ran the wow repair tool, deleted the cache/wft/etc. folders and deleted all my addons. With everything fresh, it held up a bit better - but once I got myself semi-shaped DSL access, I haven't had a single disconnect. Not even while fighting at the last door in Wintergrasp with 80+ people fighting...

What's MH? Is it Mount Hyjal? I remember that instance being a nightmare for everyone simply because of the amount of mobs coming in and how AOE'ing the crap out of the place plays a very big role...dc'ing was quite common.

In my case, it improved a whole lot when i did something with the combat logging [completely turning it off..look it up on google there are posts on how to do this properly] . Also any mods using your combat log [DPS meters] would screw you over if 25 people are spamming AOEs in your face on 10+ mobs.

And yes, turning down your graphic settings down also has an impact somehow, but i know Hyjal specifically had a boss doing AOE-ground-damage [move out of the fire! kind] and you can't see it if your gfx are turned to low...
