I just read through the thread again and it does seem there are still problems in Cape Town.

Stix, snap, tassidar, won't you PM me your contact details and a short overview of what you see? I've started a process to look at zoot's problem but want to put you all in the same process.

There still is a CT problem - I had no disconnects late yesterday but this morning I've had about 5 already.

Hmmm... this morning (10h30'ish) it's really poor - regular disconnects (Vredehoek) even within short innactivity periods.

The guys are looking at it at the moment.

GSM Africa is also adding a considerable amount of load.

v3g do you still want a pm with details? The problem seems to be a lot bigger than just a few of us.

Disconnects becoming more frequent.
The most recent connect took ages... before IP address assigned.

Using the following to keep the link up:

while true; do ping -c 1 -s 8 www.google.com; sleep 23; done

(ok, decided to abort the hack above so I can help trouble-shoot with the voda guys)

My current session hasn't dropped for over an hour.

Anyone else with similar improvements?

v3g - care to fill us in on what magic (if any) may have improved the status quo?

Thanks

Oh no... I spoke too soon - my connection unexpectedly dropped again :(

Another drop and struggled to connect again! The connections were dropped before an IP address was assigned.

Update: not good... still struggle to connect when disconnected. Repeated drops are back it seems.

Connecting from Rondebosch now - same problem. First attempt disconnected after authentication succeeded and attempt to acquire IP address.

Looks like we won't see a permanent fix before Monday / Tuesday. (Except for Gunny, who I suspect forgot his Ethernet cable in his laptop!)

There's a fair amount of new capacity going in and the end of GSM Africa will probably also help the 3G voice side a bit, so it should improve later today and then with the big upgrades next week, we should see a nice improvement in the area.

Good to hear, probably all the GSM delegates (who each seem to be on two 3G voice calls at any point in time) who left by Saturday.

There are some substantial upgrades happening, in the area, over the next week.
