Discovery insure (drive)

Good morning

I have received a quote, its is around R80 bucks more expensive than my current. Is it worth going for the essential plan or rather the classic ?

Go for the classic plan. You get a higher cash back % and a higher Uber discount (25% discount on classic and I think it's around 10% on essential).

Thank you
I’ve asked them for a quote on the classic plan as well. just waiting for it to compare. Any ideas on the price % difference between classic and essential from personal experience ?

I'm not sure on the price difference. I asked about the difference between the two and then asked upfront to be quoted on the classic.

Update on this thread

I went with the classic plan and a broker assisted me with getting a better deal.

Vitality drive is active, since yesterday though, but on the insure app it says I have x amount of points and on Silver status currently. While the vitality app says 0 points, blue status and vitality drive goals is currently unavailable.

Should I just give it a few days, or can I manually sync the vitality app and insure app ?

Got a phone call from a broker offering me discovery car insurance, he quoted me a figure that’s lower than what I’m currently getting from Naked and he mentioned that there’s 0 excess.
Now from looking at the brochure, it says that you pay no excess if damage is caused by an “insured” 3rd party.
I asked the broker what if the 3rd party is not insured? He told me regardless whether 3rd party is insured or not, if damage is caused by them, I pay no excess.

Is this true?

Not last time I checked. Discovery has a relatively high standard excess disclosed in their brochure, R3500 as I recall. But the idea is you pay for it from your savings that go into the Excess Funder Account for a few months, then you switch back to cash back.

And OP, Discovery only gives you your driving report once a month. I've got the standalone DQ Track device installed ... I think if you do the mobile tracking it's different, but from what I've read the mobile tracking is/was inconsistent (and personally I don't want to faff around with worrying if my phone is synced to the device for every drive).

you should take it easy when you with discovery insure. No quick acceleration, no harsh braking, no speeding, etc. They also want you to complete yearly checks and online tutorials for additional points to increase your status. Try it out for a few months, you either gonna save money or get annoyed with the system.

I feel if you have all the discovery products then go for it.
Do you know if this is true or know anyone where they were essentially penalised for aggressive driving?

Lol, it's a trade-off. Theres no penalization apart from fewer driving points and so maybe less rewards. I've had it for years. Tried the whole granny driving thing, got tired, and now I just don't score anywhere close to maximum points on harsh acceleration, driving and braking. But there are enough points categories you can get more points elsewhere to balance it out.

Nope.. there is a clause that says they could reject or partially cover a claim if you were driving badly moments prior to a claimable accident .. but I don’t recall this happening yet or the guilty party accepted that big brother was watching so didn’t make a fuss?

Would be an interesting case if they pull up your lack of stoping vehicle when you get t-boned as example.

There is no such clause, at least not in my policy, it contains similar wording compared to the FAQ section on the web site.

Ye but too many people are too scared to reveal if they’ve been caught out or not.
Things like joyriding on a Saturday night, drag racing and doing donuts but then taking a slow Sunday drive the next day and meeting in a small fender bender.

Must’ve removed after the exposure.. it was all over mybb a few years ago when introduced. Not that it stopped me using it back then but then I do obey road laws to the dismay of speedsters.

Will check if it’s my policy(the terms usually cover everything albeit u not using it).

For me it’s petrol station selection, BP, where we use Engen with FNB/ebucks.

I've been using them for almost two years and can comment the following:

Claims process is pretty cool - I had a windscreen replaced with absolutely no hassels.
I am paying an increased premium to have zero excess, so that is a possibility.
I used the excess funder option for cash back for a couple of months, sitting with about 18k in the account, then switched to proper cash back. The excess funder account can be used at TWT for tyre related purchases (not other things, I was told). It is also linked to your discovery drive status - the higher your status, the larger the percentage of purchase you can fund from it. If I understood correctly, you can fund 100% of your tyre purchase when on platinum level.
Driving style - I drive a bakkie, so that sort of eliminates harsh acceleration and braking, so only speeding and phone use to look after.
DQ Tracker - weirdest incident was driving on a dirt road on our way to the farm a couple of months ago. Drove through a pothole (or whatever you call them on dirt roads), got a call from discovery a few minutes later asking if everything was alright, as they got an alarm from my car.
Garage - remember if you use BP, you can also swipe your PnP card to earn their points.

So I have been on discovery insure now since 1 October 2021.

When does the funds usually get allocated to the insure funder account ?

My fuel spend was +- R800 for the month (at shell and swiped the card) but when I log into the app it says R0 in insure funder account.

Thanks

Correction the spend was R700 odd. When I go into October it says R353.68 and when I go to fuel cash back history it says the R0

Give it some time to appear in the insure funder account. My October allocation hasn’t appeared yet either.
