Discovery Insure Petrol Refund

Could we revive this topic! I see on HelloPeter people are complaining that the rewards are a joke. One member gets paid R40/month. According to the comments in this post the rewards are worth it. Could we get more testimony from people who have received rewards. Tx

I've had it for three months and got R346 back in the three months, so R115.33 per month. It should get better from here because I took my car for the check at Tiger wheel and tyre on Saturday that boost the percentage from 20 to 40 or something like that

I have been with them for the last 5 months. My premium actually came down by R200 from previous insurance company. The 1st month I received R205, but since then I average R480. That means I am paying about R500 a month, after getting cashback, for my car, house and household contents. That is a win in my book :D

Correction it's 20% without the multipoint check and 50% with it, so my rewards should more than double from here

Every month Im also getting between R400-R500 cashback on fuel spend at BP through Discovery Insure.

I get 500+ doubled to over 1k into the excess account. Balance now 15k. But yes I used to work for discovery. .

What would they do if my fuel spend is in the region of R3500, my insurance premium is about R1000... and i'm on the 50% reward level?

They're not going to give me R750 per month just for the pleasure of driving my vehicle and insuring with them.

I get more into my excess account than I pay in premiums each month.

How does this work exactly?

I need to get a tracker and they monitor my driving or what?

Right. So if I go 70 in a 60 zone and drive on someone that went 40 they will not pay out?

I looked into this but Discovery's premiums for this was about 70% more than Santam (It was something like R870 compared to the Santam charge of R500 a year or 2 ago). Add on the extra Vitality charge of R150 a month and it's not really a good deal.

Done my research on this one..

Max fuel back is R700 per month. I am not entirely sure how this "excess funder" account works, but it just looks like a gimmick to me. Some of the beneifts.

The benefits POTENTIALLY could be good, but off the bat they don't come close to getting me even in the same ballpark as my current insurance premium, and with things as tight as they are atm, I will stay where I am.

Reviving the old thread.
Any feedback from Discovery Insure drivers?
I only drive about 1000km a month anyways, and fill up with about R750 worth of Diesel.

I'm thinking of going only third party insurance.
Have a 2004 Mercedes C220 CDi that's paid off and I can afford to lose.
But with buildings and household contents insurance so expensive, I'm considering my options..
Don't want to end up paying R1400 per month for my car, a R2.5m house and R250 000 household contents if I can afford to lose anything but the house itself :)
