Discovery Vitality [2017]

Vitality Purple:

This is new, isnt it?

Anyone looked at it yet?

I'm seeing the following that looks like Discovery is trying to boost revenue:
You pay an additional premium, over and above the standard Vitality premium.
2018 Premiums
Member R399
Member + 1 R459
Member + 2 R499

Seems to have been around since 2014 and is by invitation only. It seems the simplest way to be invited is to be on the Executive health plan or upgrade your life or invest policy to Purple. Not sure what the extra benefits are on Purple.

I would assume as well that Purple members will be first to get onto their new banking offering which is code-named Discovery Purple as well.

Here is some more info and it lists the criteria for the Life and Invest products:

If I recall correctly, the Purple credit card was by invitation only and is over a year old... the Purple Vitality status is something new and available to anyone... I don't quite see the value though.

I see that the 300 points for the park run I did on Saturday 30 December is gone. Only noticed this today. Are weekly points also reset at the start of the year? Now I need to get 500 points in 3 days which is impossible as I don't use a heart rate monitor. And I lose my 20 week reward streak as well as my gym and shoe discounts for the month.

Nope..

The only way to “reset” your weekly goal is to not reach them and wait for the decay rate to kick in.

My wife did nothing for 2 weeks... and her 900 target never decreased... they are very unfair!

Yeah, I'm decreasing by 50 pts every 3 or so weeks I'd estimate. Currently on a goal of 600 which i intend not to bother making for another 2 months.

If anyone wants a smoothie voucher that expires today you can PM me.

Sounds about right.. I eventually restarted getting points at 450.. I’m now at 650.

Personally I think 700 should have been the limit per week (100 points per day) which is realistic for even non-hr people but you know actuaries, 900 was likely the point with the most drop off.

Hi, i went for a physical at a physician not contracted to discovery. Is there any way i can still get the vitality points?

Hey guys,

I recently purchased a Gear Fit2 Pro so that I can get points for my heart rate.

One thing I have noticed is that it is a bit of a gamble. You don't know if you have done enough until you have already finished your workout.

Any tips on getting the points or for tracking when you have reached it?

There is no easy way. Just go for at least 30 mins and you should get something. A 30 minutes run should give you between 200-300 points depending on your fitness level.

I think that is why I like my old school polar m400 still. Its big, its bulky, and it requires a bluetooth HR belt. BUT. It has an average HR during the workout on the display, so I can pretty much fine tune it to whatever avg HR I want at the end of the workout.

That is nice... it's Russian Roulette for me after every workout with the Polar H7 running Polar Beat on my phone :erm:

How so? Polar Beat also allow you to see your average HR in real time, so you should be able to do the same thing I do with the M400. At least thats how I used to use it, before the M400.

Set it to show HR in % instead of bpm and then show the average and current HR with whatever else on the display you want.

I am a Vitality newbie so be gentle....... I want to get myself a fitness tracker device like the Tom Tom Runner 3. How does the Vitality cashback work?

DO I purchase the device and claim back from Discovery? Totalsports and Sportsmans Warehouse are their partners I think.

You activate the Healthy Gear benefit, and choose a preferred partner. If you do the Vitality age assessment, and the vitality fitness assessment (R350 I think), you get 25% cashback into your account on your billing cycle https://www.discovery.co.za/vitality/activate-healthygear
