Discovery Vitality in 2016

Some percentage of your max heart rate, adjusted for age. Not sure on the specifics though

That email looks very different to what is on the site though (for 2016) :erm:

If you get > (220 - your age)*0.70 then you get the bonus points for vigorous.

I am still waiting for the Apple watch to be a recognised step counting device. Feel wierd wearing apple watch and fitbit.

Should hit my target Or get close. 1200 is no easy feat.

You don't need to wear both. Use the Fitbit app and set it to get data from the Apple motion sensor, it will then upload that every night.
So you get the steps without a Fitbit.

Wow. Mobile Track. Thanks. Didn't know I could do that

Can you do something like this with an Android phone and no Fitbit?

<edit>
OK, so it looks like there are many apps that can be installed on an Android or iOS device. Which would you guys recommend for an Android phone? I'm not into running or tracking my heart rate, so it would only be for the odd hike here or there to log steps.

Garmin Connect
Polar
Jawbone
Fitbit
Fitbug
miCoach
MapMyFitness
RunKeeper
Moves
Withings
Strava
Misfit

Also, I won an Oregon Scientific SSmart Dynamo wristband a year ago... is there anyway I can get Vitality to recognise steps that it logs?

They also have a calories per hour instead of heart rate for devices that upload heart rate data like for instance my Garmin Swim.

Yeah nice thing is there are constant updates to the app and the device so the guys seemingly are trying to improve it as we move along.

How are your guys HR measurements going? I cant seem to get mine above 120 for long periods and have never gone above 140 even though the HR machines on cardio equipment says so.

Had a look quickly and highest I was reading I could find was 175 bpm but that's normally during HIIT cardio so it's for a couple of secs.
I have been able to keep HR around 135-140 constantly for 10-20min

If I start walking briskly I get to about 160 bpm (which is already above the bonus point threshold).

Jogging at a pace of 5min/km I get my HR to about 193bpm, which is more than my theoretical maximum.

Yeah I think we need to remember that obviously the fitter you are the lower your average bmp will be.
To get to 193 I would probably need to literally run my @ss off :)

I run 2 to 4 times a week every week for about 3 years now. I thought it would go down after a while, but it just doesn't. My resting HR went down though.

That's weird. My resting is normally between 50-60.
How high does yours get when running if it's 193 at a brisk walk?

How do you work out you theoretical maximum from your resting heart rate?

Busting my ass off and my HR does not spike about 130. So dont know what could be working. Maybe it just means I need to push more

How do you work out you theoretical maximum from your resting heart rate?

You can use your resting heart rate to calculate your training zones.
Google "Karvonen formula"

For theoretical max HR, people usually just go with 220-age. Otherwise go look for a massive hill and find out your own max. Assuming you're not high-risk! (high BP, age, T2DM, Hx etc.)

160 at brisk walk

193 at 5min/km run, if it goes over that I generally start to struggle to maintain my pace. (This is what I normally run at on my 10km run. If I go over 193, I slow down before I feel the effects of it)

Edit:

The point I wanted to make is that the HR measurement isn't the most accurate to determine intensity of a work out.

My one friend never goes over 130, even if he is struggling to keep up.
