Discovery Vitality in 2016

Spot-on; I think they must have a model that balances the monetary subsidization with the rewards target.

For example if they have decided to subside R100k a month; if active rewards members are going to breach that, then increase the rewards target to minimize their cost risk.

Exactly, thats why they have the Discovery Card tie in, i.e. you are ALWAYS liable for the credit as it's technically a purchase with 24 month interest free(Vitality paying the watch is a bonus and in no way seen as a credit provided). If it was direct without the Discovery Card, Vitality would not be-able to tie you down on a variable payment scheme due to credit laws.

What determines the weekly points required for an award, mine is 500. Is it your Vitality level? Others at work are just 200 per week.

As you claim your rewards and meet your goals. Your target will increase to a max of 1200.

Wasted my free rewards drink at Vida on a Caffè Mocha. It was grossly sweet and their options pale in comparison to what one can get at Kauai.

I first tried for a protein shake but it didn't work. Not on the list which i only saw afterwards. The staff weren't clued up at all on what was allowed or not

The app was updated today for IOS, you can now get data from iHealth and Apple watch.

This came in via email now.

Dear X,
You recently activated Vitality Active Rewards and became part of a fundamentally different approach to engaging in, and rewarding, physical activity. The results of the Active Rewards programme have exceeded all expectations, with thousands of Vitality members exercising 35% more on average than they did before and earning over 170000 smoothies and coffees in the process.
Now get Vitality Active Rewards with Apple Watch
Today, we're delighted to announce that the Vitality Active Rewards with Apple Watch benefit is now available to you in a unique collaboration between Vitality and Apple. Apple's ground-breaking health and fitness companion, Apple Watch, combines with Vitality Active Rewards to motivate you to get even more active.
As a Vitality member, we're offering you access to an Apple Watch to help you get more active and healthy. The amount you pay for your Apple Watch is based on achieving your weekly fitness goals – if you meet all your Vitality Active Rewards goals in a month, the monthly amount for your Apple Watch will be funded in full by us.
Activate the benefit to collect your Apple Watch
Simply download the latest version of the Discovery app for iPhone and activate the Apple Watch benefit by paying an activation fee (you will need a Discovery Gold Card or higher). Then visit your local iStore to collect your Apple Watch. It's that simple to become one of the very first in South Africa to own the new Apple Watch.
To learn more about Vitality Active Rewards with Apple Watch, including the terms and conditions, visit www.discovery.co.za. Remember that you need an iPhone 5 or later to use Apple Watch.

Get Apple Watch. Get Active. Get Rewarded.

Rather buy the watch cash... will be less stressful in your life ;-) And get your 2 free smoothies a week for as long as you can. And use that to subsidise your watch expense.
They know that the majority of people won't be able to maintain the full cash back for the full 24mths.

I'd like to know what the "Cap" on the points is per week. Some people here are on 1200 or so points they need to earn a week to get their smoothie, but is that as high as it goes?

I doubt it. Next year they will increase the cap

For this year yes.

Don't know about next year as you can earn more points per day. Hopefully it doesn't go up by too much.

I'm addicted to the Kauai Peanut Butter Bomb...

well to me it's like an interest free loan for 24 months. From that perspective it's cool..(Discovery Card offers 12 month). But no-one should be using this as a way of buying a Apple Watch where they can't afford the monthly cost.

I've already made a long post in the other thread regarding the points required for the weekly goals.
Its fine if it is just seen as an incentive to get people fit but once you see it as a payment for a R6000 watch the variable scale is not fair nor reasonable. It is discrimination against fit people. To lower your required points you will have to miss a few weeks and thus pay cash for the watch.

And unless they clarify the way the points required will work or at the very least specify the maximum required it is just too risky. I'm also pretty sure that if they did the same thing in the US without specifying the requirements beforehand they would get sued every second week. But TIA and here you can get away with things like this it seems.

I always got to Vida, is the Peanut butter bomb on the list of smoothies you can get for free? If so then I'm changing my reward :D

I was under the impression all smoothies are in the rewards program... as long as its a small...
Peanut butter bomb(small) is R40...

I read on Vitality facebook, that you can upgrade to the large for an extra R5, which is worthwhile imo.

Seems like I've been prevented from accumulating more than 200 points a day with my current routine. That locks me at 1000 maximum points for the week unless I do something to get more... my target is 650 atm, and I got 2 smoothies this week thanks to adding a forumite to my team :D

Hey Guys, I took the plunge and picked up an apple watch today.
I am having an issue linking the discovery app to the health app on the phone as i do not see the iwatch or health app option under devices and apps in disc app or portal. Anyone else have this issue?

Edit: It was not the latest version :p That fixed it.

Hi chaps

Gonna try this out . Any downside/penalties to doing this for a bit and then stopping (if the goals get ridiculous)?
