Discuss the Canon 450D here!!!

Why would one compare the 40D with 400D? If you have the money get the 40D. It's a joy to use compared to the 400D/450D.

40D is easer to hold/operate, more rugged, faster, has weather proofing and has a faster flash sync speed.
Image quality is the same, but the 40D is the better camera.
The 400D isnt a joy to use?

I didnt realise I was so miserable with the ones I have . . . I can cancel those therapy sessions now :p

It's to small for me. The 450D is a little bigger but the grip eats into my right hand. :(
Yet its actually bigger than the D60 you raved about in the other thread. :)

Cant comment on the comfort of the 450D as havent picked one up yet.

We are also looking for a good quality digital cameras.

Is there any websites we can peruse for comparison on the different makes and models?

Urgent buying advice needed.

What are the chances of this being legit, I've contacted the guy,and he seems to be ok. He'll accept half cash, half EFT on collection, the camera is brand new.

He has other ads as well which are als quite reasonable

Does it have a local warranty?

It would inspire a little more confidence if he actually had the right picture with the add.

An arrangement like that would make me very suspicious, unless it is with someone I know personally.

I don't want to sound condescending or anything, but why don't you just save up a little more and buy it from a reputable dealer?

xrapidx, consider this: B&H has the 450D kit for $899. That's R6898 according to xe.com. Click on "Calculate shipping" and select South Africa. It shows me three options, ranging from $85 (R651) to $117 (R896). That still fits into the R8000 from this guy on Gumtree. Now add a couple of bucks in case you have to pay import duties and VAT (by the way, I didn't have to, somehow, when I sent my dad his camera) and you're likely only a few hundred over R8000, and you will have bought from a reputable dealer, who has an excellent after-sales reputation.

Apparently. I asked for proof.

... noticed the pic thing too.

He actually wants cash, but I said I couldn't draw it all in one go...

DO we have reputable dealers in SA? Look at their prices - they rip us off left, right and center... I'd usually buy one overseas, and save myself a fortune, except I'm not going anytime soon, and my current camera died.

Didn't realise they ship to SA... thanks... I'll check it out. I'm not a fan of supporting local - cause they don't support us.

They have a great after-sales rep . . . if you're willing to get the camera back to the shop. Thats one of the pitfalls of buying from overseas - its no biggie for me with all the family I have there but for others it might not be as feasible.
