Dishwasher issues

Wife insisted we buy a Bosch series 4 dishwasher for nearly R9000. Plumber fitted it when I was out and disappeared

Have used it once, it took 4 hours 20 mins to complete a wash which I thought was too long. The previous machine did a wash in 45 mins

The book is the most complicated ever. Vague about what it can do and the pictures on the page do not correspond with the buttons on the machine

Spoke to Bosch. They offer no assistance

Machine is not being used as have no idea what to do

One of the buttons is said to halve the wash time. When the power button is pressed 4:20 appears on the display. Pressing the button the book says is "1/2" shows 15 on the display but the machine won't start
Ouch - you overpaid.

My serie4 takes 3h30m to run in the default Eco mode. That's 1h10m more than the Auto mode but you save water and electricity and the dishes get just as clean. At the end of the day does that extra time really mean anything?

Pro tip - use powder, instead of or in addition to an overpriced tab, and add a tablespoon directly into the machine in addition to whatever you put in the detergent hopper. That way you take full advantage of the pre-wash cycle.

Programmes seem pretty straightforward?

No idea why they have a silent mode - that dishwasher is stealthy!

The Serie 4 was on special for R6k recently.

Sheesh.

The savings on our serie 2 will probably cover its lifetime operating costs.

Only has about 3 options. Takes about a 1h30 to do a cycle. Cleans all the dishes.

Do the higher end models have extra spray bars or something or are you just paying for more complex front panel and firmware?

What difference does it make how long it takes to wash dishes?
If you're not pedantic about only running it overnight and you have finite cutlery, a 3+ hour cycle with loadshedding is 5-7 hours and at that point you're... ordering takeaways anyway.

Ok so maybe it makes no difference.

We have one of the built in Bosch ones, so there is no visual aid and it's so quiet you're sometimes not sure it's doing anything.

And then it stops and peeps every 5 or whatever minutes and won't ******** stop.

I run it when it's full, not necessarily overnight, and we have more cutlery/flatware/utensils than you could ever fit in the machine (it's a 13 place setting machine).

Fortunately these machines are smart enough to continue after any power cuts have ended.

My aim is to use as little power and water as possible... hence Eco mode. I really don't care if it takes 12 hours.

Mine is dead quiet - no beeping at all.

Eco mode uses 2-3 times the water but doesn't heat as hot. For us an eco wash costs more than a "normal" wash. Just use normal mode, it is optimised for best performance that way.

European eco means for their environment - expensive electricity but essentially free water.

Bosch claims Eco mode uses less electricity and water than the other modes.

EDIT: If you think about it there's no reason for it to use more water, it makes up for the cooler temps with a longer cycle, but even if it did water is cheaper than electricity.

Extended warranty technicians replaced the pump/heater unit. It hasn't helped. Not sure if the next step is another repair, or replacement or credit.
Did you ever get it sorted? I have exactly the same problem with my Bosch dishwasher after the pump assembly was changed.

No. We escalated, got another tech out, he passed feedback back to Makro, heard nothing since. 3 months now. In the last few weeks, one or two washes were fine, most were so-so (soap no fully dissolved, soap still on dishes), and a few were completely ineffective.

Never figured out the issue. Makro finally gave us a voucher for the amount of the original purchase, and we purchased a new dishwasher (Bosch again, slightly upgraded). Interestingly, the water hose is a plain simply hose, without the fancy valve thing on the tap end.
