dishwasher suggestions

Our daughter in Aus has one that looks a similar size that is made to fit in a drawer i.e. it was top-opening. I was sceptical at first, but in many ways it makes sense, as you can make do with less stuff. What I don't know is how the water and electricity use compares to a normal-sized one. They ran it after every meal, more or less, and sometimes in between, but there were 6 of us in the house.

Salt for dishwashers isnt that expensive in comparison to Rinse Aid and Powder.
The no name brands work fine and do not damage your dishwasher.
I bought a 1KG bag from PNP beginning of the year for around R12 and it is still not finished. I use my machine twice a week.
its not the cost I am worried about but the corrosion of my aluminum utensils. The king we use is expensive and we have to get them from India.

The reason I am asking is that we use a lot of aluminum utensils for cooking and it is said that the salt is the reason for corrosion of aluminum utensils in a dishwasher.
I wouldn’t recommend washing unfinished (iow not anodized) aluminium in the dishwasher as the detergents will gradually corrode it. If it’s shiny it’s fine.

You’ll figure out what’s what after you wash something for the first time.

Can it damage the machine or only the utensils?

Cool, we've been washing an old cullinder in the machine for a bit. Obviously ashen and dull looking but don't really care about that so just wanted to make sure the machine will be fine.
