I suppose it would be worth a try. I mean, its unlikely that the new set is 100% incompetent like the current ones.
Government should resign: De Lille
Independent Democrats leader Patricia de Lille on Tuesday moved a motion calling on President Thabo Mbeki and his cabinet to resign over the energy crisis.
Speaking in the National Assembly during debate on Mbeki's state of the nation address, she said the ID had lost confidence in the government and its leaders.
"Government is constantly calling on our people to make sacrifices that you yourself are not prepared to make," she said.
Inequality had grown over the past 14 years and people had been forced to survive in the most dehumanising conditions, while others had accumulated large amounts of wealth.
Government had put thousands of jobs at risk and was not held accountable.
"For the ID, business unusual must start with action finally being taken against those political leaders who have clearly failed South Africa," De Lille said.
"Honourable President, we have heard your list of promises before.
"One of the reasons that they have not been fulfilled is that you failed to act against ministers who failed to implement government policies and plans.
"The time for political accountability is long overdue. We fail to see how we can trust those who created the electricity crisis to also deliver us from it.
"It is unacceptable that they are still making decisions about our future energy path and committing us to spending millions of rand."
Government "spin" that the crisis was created through unexpected economic growth was untrue, she said.
Growth had been lower than government had predicted.
"The fact that the ANC will now benefit from the building of new power stations through Chancellor House adds insult to injury."
De Lille said she was delivering a written notice of motion to the Secretary to Parliament.
The motion stated that "as a result of government's failure to prevent the prevailing energy crisis, the House has no confidence in the President and therefore, in accordance with section 102 of the Constitution, he and his Cabinet must resign".
De Lille also lashed out at Safety and Security Minister Charles Nqakula for announcing the Scorpions' dissolution in Parliament.
It was very arrogant for Nqakula to undermine Parliament's authority by making the announcement, she said.
The Scorpions had been established by an Act of Parliament.
"And the procedures must start here in Parliament. Not for the executive to announce the dissolution of the Scorpions," she said.
Also, if Mbeki had acted earlier concerning National Police Commissioner Jackie Selebi, instead of uttering the phrase "I trust you", the country would have been in a much stronger position in the fight against crime, De Lille said. - Sapa
Of course. I just don't see how different parliamentary members can be any worse than the current lot (With a few undergunned exceptions).theratman said:You do realise that parliment is not only the ANC..
Does anyone here knows if it might be possable for the IFP and DA to be combined in the ellections?
As at the moment im a full-on DA supporter, but i think we need some more members/supporters...
IFP is almost strictly Natal and they stand up for the zulu people,if the DA could show the IFP supporters what theyl do for the zulus then its possible, but i doubt the DA will want to share power
My whole idea is this...Seeing the ANC has so much power/votes, we need something to dismantle them...The only way to do this ( or at least ONE of the ways ) is to get a couple of parties to stand together...ie DA, IFP, etc... This will then give a good opposition...Once THIS is achieved, let the remaining parties ( whom have joined together ) sort their differences out between themselves and carry on from there.
...in combo with what i said above? A FOR SURE WINNERI think the best way of winning is by stealing the ANC vote, its slowly happening.Once people in the country become more educated they wont vote ANC just because their parents do,they will look for alternatives
...in combo with what i said above? A FOR SURE WINNER![]()
