Ditching DSTV

Please tell me
What does all of this cost on a monthly basis (data )
Who should I consider
Let's say watch 5 2 hour long movies a week
And can I still catch a discovery program or two

Sorry a bit outdated with all of this

I use Axxess 10mb/s line and haven't had any streaming issues unless the source is poor. 100gigs should be fine for you as long as you stick to HD quality and not 1080p, 4mb/s line is pretty much the minimum speed you are going to need.

The cost: R189 from Axxess for 100gigs + 100gigs, Landline rental R189 and R299 for 4mb/s line speed = R677
You can save a few bucks by getting the 60gigs+60gigs and taking the line through Axxess which will bring you to R558. Then you need a device or Laptop with HDMI to install Kodi on, So that depends what you have. I recommend a wireless keyboard with track pad to use kodi on your pc (R400-R700) but any Andriod phone with the Kore app can work.

With Kodi and exodus you can search for any program Discovery has ever made and watch every season for that program, exodus is updated in real time so as soon as there is a source you can watch it (normally 1-2 hours after release:) ). You can also install LIVE TV app and watch Discovery live if you want but then you gonna need faster then 4mb/s line speed.

Just download Yatse remote control on your phone then you dont need a keyboard or track pad.

Yip read the last part 'kore app' which is a smart phone remote for kodi. I still prefer the wireless keyboard as its easy to change to Youtube, DSTV app and Tunein.

And if you have Chromecast you can also install Popcorntime on your phone and stream some movies and tv shows from the app. Works like a charm. Easy as pie too.

I am thinking of ditching DSTV completely...

can someone please point me to a site that will assist me with getting the movie / series / media type setup going. needs to be very step by step though :D

TIA

T

Way easy:
  • Step one - Disconnect DSTV
  • Step two - Invest in an uncapped ADSL (4MB+) line
  • Step three - Get yourself an Android Box (Zidoo, Minix, Tronsmart, R-Box)
  • Step four - Open your browser on the Android device and go to www.mobdro.com
  • Step five - Download and install the APK.
  • Step six - Enjoy international Sport and streams.

as a last note: You will be surprised that History Channel outside of South Africa is actually History. Not DStealerTV's reality shows...

I have 10 MBPS Telkom Fibre though Afrihost, here are the costs:
Fibre total price R 899 for unlimited data.
I subscribe to Netflix OR Shomax for one month at a time depending on what I want to watch. Netflix $ 9 pm, Showmax R100 per month.

Kodi I have but it never has the art, niche movies I want to watch.

e prepared that neither Netflix or Showmax has all you want to watch and has a habit of not having the latest seasons, sometimes only season one.

You can always look for the rest of the seasons, or movies you can't find, on Kodi with the app I cant remember, or download illegally, or asking around if people have a copy for you. Invariably someone will have it.
Steaming services might eventually make a plan to have a better and more updated collection.

So you're happy sideloading through mobdro but blow a circuit doing that with DSTV now / supersport? I don't get it

What comes to mind is:
You can take a horse to the water...

Understand this, if I pay for a technology (Sorry, in your case you are stealing it, as you pointed out...) I expect it to work out the box. 'Nough said.

As an afterthought, just because I slag DSTV does not make me bad, it calls for better support and better service.

Hulu...I've has Netflix both local and US and I've had Showmax and nonthing beatts Hulu for me. Its superior in both content and user interface. And yes...there is a way :)

step 0. have a decent internet connection and enough cap to cover your streaming needs

step 1. get a device that can run Kodi (rasbery pi, mini PC, or whatever.)

step 2 install Kodi

step 3 add excedus add on for kodi

step 4. be overwhelmed by the choices and lack of ads. kidding.

congratulations on getting rid of DSTV.

I've tried this installation but it doesn't want to work. I got the complete installation done and can see all the content but nothing plays.

When I select a show it runs through all the providers and then tries to open the stream and then I get a message that says Playback Failed.

Any ideas on how to sort this out?

Depends.

It may be that the show simply has no stream.
So try the most popular show season 1 episode 1 see if that plays.

Otherwise try a different add on to exodus

Thanks. Still no go.

Might be my currently very k@k connection causing the issue.

I'll try with another add-on
