I believe in buying the best once, instead of loads of cheap stuff.
But in the case of a DivX Player the cheep crap works just as well - bought one for my mom and one for my GF's aunt. (pitty that one wasn't thief proof)

Having said that, I do own 1 genuine player and 1 el-cheapo :D and it hasn't faulted yet.
I understand the views you guys have, but you must remember that if it's a cheap product, they obviously used cheap materials to make it. These cheap materials(cheap lasers etc...) could damage the discs you put in it and you might have trouble replacing/repairing the player and then you want to go and buy another cheap one? You can't buy something with the thought that it might break and it's a waste of money, so you opt for the cheap one. But hey, if it works then all is good :)
For example, don't buy Diamond :D.
Each to his own. My el-cheapo is called Jebson btw ;)

There's no compromise to me when it comes to shoes, I love quality shoes, shirts and pants, don't care much, anything is doable :p

that's why you should rip or make back-ups of your movies before you put them in your player! ;) The originals get safely stored in a cupboard somewhere. I started doing that after Shrek got dragged across the floor and "played with" by a two year old. The Disc was so scratched it would not play anymore. Looked like it had been sandpapered! :D
