Our SPCA is in a remote area, no fireworks lit nearby. But, here's a little clue for you. Most people don't intentionally go out and buy those loud bangs. Those illegal fireworks like Indian King are just repackaged in innocent looking floral display types and packed in boxes with the other fireworks. Many people have lit those fireworks and not expected that thunderous sound, hence me saying go after the suppliers!

As it turns out, regardless of the day of the year, fireworks in the residential areas in the city of Durban are illegal.

Beyond that, there are noise disturbance levels, and those are not relaxed on those specific days and the rockets ALL breach those limits.

When the user decides to let off the large rockets that make an god awful loud bang and rattle windows in a residential area, there is no two way street, said user of fireworks must fsck off somewhere else or face the wrath of his neighbours.

Whats loud for you is even louder for a dog. As a previous pet owner I know the ritual of keeping a pet inside and turning up the music to drown out the sound.

Oh, so you now torture your dog with even louder sounds to drown out a sound that frightens the living hell out of them. Yes, that is brilliant logic that.

I've yet to see a rocket rattle a window.

So... poor, innocent, unsuspecting folk are conned into setting off massive explosions by shady fireworks dealers with a penchant for kitsch floral patterns? Sure...

Just stick a few sparklers in the lawn and you wouldn't run the risk of unwittingly bombing the neighbourhood.

You saying by me saying that you haven't heard rockets that rattle windows is your issue not mine, that i'm using the same logic as the fireworks users.. do explain how.

Sorry I don't celebrate Diwali and as I've mentioned in the thread, I detest the loud bangs. I'd rather make a plan so that my pets are safe than moan and groan. And you really should check out a box of fireworks. Pay careful attention to the innocuous looking ones. Sure, there are some morons who actively go out looking for those big bangs, but there are just as many people who light one, hear the noise and toss the other five.

As same as someone saying they haven't seen a window rattle from fireworks and that's your issue not theirs.
Your link is inconclusive, I'd like a link to the fireworks policy for eThekwini preferably a government site.

I still hold that calculated 'moaning and groaning' serves an educating function.

I outgrew fireworks when I tossed my last tom thumb cracker at the age of, I dunno, 9. I just find it bizarre that people would dress up massive crackers as innocuous little sparklers. There'd by dozens of kids blowing their hands off each day during November if it was a widely spread phenomenon.

Also, just to touch on earlier point of you taking your dogs to a kennel... Understand that, for most of us, our local kennels aren't any more isolated than our backyards. We don't all live in the sticks. :D
