Diwali Fireworks

Hey, RiaX, because this is clearly not clear enough: you have a comprehension problem and are incapable of reading or reason.

For that reason, I have no interest in wasting my time with you.

Have a nice day.

+1. Just ignore his posts completely. It's just blah blab blah drivel.

Hah... Funny, when you're the one who wants OTHER people to put up with YOUR actions that AFFECT THEM, then "tolerance, tolerance, tolerance."

But gods forbid you be tolerant of your neighbours and not allow your bat****tery to affect them, eh?

P.S. That's kind of the "ideal" for what makes "tolerance" tolerable: finding a compromise that doesn't negatively impact each other. And if your actions result in actively upsetting others, then the onus is on you to find a middle-ground, not the people you're actively upsetting.

Have you tried to compare how many of the 365 days of the year they have fireworks, vs how many days they don't?

If it was everyday I'd agree with you. But since it is only on certain days you just look like a selfish prick.

they not even full days. Its literally hours. If you add up all the hours you are allowed to burst fireworks in the year its less than a day

these are the type of people that will complain about everything.

How often do the Spaniards hold bull-fighting?

Justifying it because of its frequency doesn't change its consequences, I'm afraid.

I'm not entirely black-and-white about this: at designated venues professionals are welcome to go nuts. I just see no reason why every Tom, Dick and Harry should be allowed to play with fireworks because RELIGION™, TRADITION™, TOLERANCE™, etc.

Because it's fun.

Government should be regulating pet ownership. Not fireworks.

right ... when the whole point is to guide the gods into your home for a prosperous new year and celebrate the triumph of good over evil.

Hindus must now vacate their home and celebrate in designated areas.... shall they carry a brown pass as well ?

Regardless of whether it's hours, days or minutes, you still have a responsibility to be considerate towards your neighbors. There are aerial displays that don't make a lot of noise. If you want to find out about them, contact Jan Kriel School. They're a school for mentally disadvantaged children in Kuilsriver who had a christmas celebration every year that ended off with a fireworks display. They fired countless aerial displays that at most made a 'fzzzzz' sound. But I guess expecting people to use those in a residential area is too much to ask because they're not as fun to fire off as the exploding ones.

Ironically enough, I believe the school stopped the fireworks display because of the disruption it caused in the surrounding neighborhoods and replaced it with a laser display.

Thank god I live in the most progressive province in SA where fireworks might be banned soon.

Oh lol. Look everyone! RiaX is still trying his best to steer this towards DISCRIMINATION-VILLE.

I agree regarding pet-ownership but the same applies to fireworks.

How many animals have had kids shoving firecrackers up their rectums this year? How many children have lost their fingers because their "responsible parents" (you know, the ones who are supposed to be responsible enough to not go too overboard with the fireworks in the first place) weren't as attentive as they would've sworn they'd be just a day or two prior to the event?

If reality has taught us anything, it's that dangerous substances and "the average Joe" don't mince well.

Of course I'd say, "Let them blow their fingers off, see if I care..." but unfortunately I have this bizarre sense of empathy for the children who, I like to think, just don't know any better. Also, as I said, other people's desperate need to cling to "tradition" directly affects me when it doesn't have to: people can celebrate in other ways.

And if... (I had to chuckle)... people's "gods" can't find their way to their homes... it's time to find new gods. Because, frankly, that should give you enough of a clue about this ridiculous farce.

Two points the sympathisers ignore:
  1. Even if one disregards the unethical ****wittery of expecting people to sedate their animals in anticipation of the neighbourhood's backwards idiots getting their jollies because *BOOM!*, that does absolutely nothing to address the negative effect on any wildlife in the area. Bats? Birds? **** 'em, right?
  2. Quite separate from the very real issues regarding animals and fireworks, there is also the matter of dim bulbs annoying other people around them. The concessions made on certain days aren't a free pass to detonate whatever the hell one wants. If your 'fireworks' cause a noise that carries for kilometres it's a nuisance, regardless whatever else it may do. If you make a nuisance of yourself I'll ask you once to stop; if you don't I'll slash your tyres if I can get to 'em or I'll chuck bricks on your roof at 3am. Your culture does not allow you to detract from my enjoyment of my own property. Not even on one day a year. I'm not an ******* neighbour; I expect the same courtesy in return.

Now, especially for the resident savant pharmacist: Nowhere has this been directed at any one group of people per se. The thread started after Dewali because, genius, Dewali heralded the start of the 2013 firework/moron season. This discussion revolves around principle, and the principle is that people are free to do whatever they choose to within reasonable limits. Nobody said cars are silent. Nobody said all Hindus are backwards. Nobody said there's an expectation of silent fireworks. You should stop concerning yourself with your cursory brush with legal schooling, and perhaps consider taking a few courses in basic ethics. You're not clever. You haven't outwitted those opposing your views. You are instead the singular most dishonest and disingenuous person I've yet conversed with. You can hereby gladly join the other sleaze-ball on my ignore list; you're not worth engaging further.

The stench of troll has had me updating my troll filters.

Thank you trolls for outing yourselves so effectively

I can't say it's been a pleasure and am in fact surprised that you (RiaX especially) have managed to avoid the banhammer - in fact, it's to the credit of the rational members here that you haven't been RBP 'd.

I sincerely hope that these are only your online personalities because if they're not, may I never have the misfortune of meeting you IRL

What kind of gods get lost?

What kind of gods get lost?

They have lots of them... a few might get misplaced every so often... so they need a signal as to where their "home" is you know...

They're also all very old, so are clearly in need of a bit of help.

Must confuse the crap out of them when non-hindus light fireworks on diwali...

right now you making fun of their beliefs ... remind me again how you not discriminating.

As for the wildlife ... what makes you think there are no wild life around stadiums and these so called firework friendly zones ? again idealistic nonsense

Jesus on a stick, the stupid in this thread is off the charts. It boils down to: "I want to be an asshole, and if you don't like it you're being an intolerant racist/bigot."

Discriminating? Pointing out illogical horse-schit is not discrimination. Please, for the love of buddha, just stop posting ffs. You only serve to highlight how horrendous your grasp of the English language is...
