DIY Coffee bean roasting?

Have tried the roasting at home and it seems a lot depends on the relative humidity of the beans

I now buy a 2kg pack of roasted beans from Giovanni's in Sea Point. Quite the very best beans I have tried. Better than Woolworths, Truth and a few others

There's no photos for the second batch, but here is attempt 1.0 (starting out on the left and then right is the final roast)

So on my gas hob (1-9) I start with 7 and then 6 for a more darker roast for about 15 minutes. Leaving the beans for about 4 days (from 7 seems optimal) before use it was better than what I expected.
Yummy!! Looks great!

Good job on those, seems like a decent light/medium roast.
I generally leave my fresh roasts to "rest" for a day, before using.
Anything more than that starts influencing their taste, as Arabica beans do not like air and sunlight exposure.

I've been roasting my own for a couple years now, its really not difficult to obtain consistantly great results.

1) Popcorn Machine +- R150 from clicks/game etc
2) A sieve to contain the chaff
3) Green beans (initially I bought from the coffee shop down the road from me, but now I just get it online from ryocoffee co za)

Once you've experienced fresh self-roasted coffee there's honestly no going back!!
