DIY Gas stove installation

We also had ours installed by a pro installer. Peace of mind...

And he would not give me the certificate until I built up a cage (bricked up sides with a roof) for my two 48kg cylinders.
 
ask them how much extra for a "changeover" tap on gasbotles outside.
Gasbotle in cupboard near stove would been cheaper, but loose lots of cupboard space and 9kg bottle max
 
Ok so Royal Gas came on time as promised and did a neat enough job.

Really good service from this company.
 
Need some advice.Redoing my kitchen and want a 2 plate gas stove in the island.Is this possible with a 9kg gas bottle?
 
you will probably need to keep the bottle in the island with the burner.
If the bottle is 1.5m or less and inside then it doesnt need to be done by a certified installer.
Alternatively you will need to have it routed underfloor and cutoff valves installed in a cupboard somewhere.

Yes I told the builder to make a cupboard for the bottle underneath.

Changeover tap was around R1000 .

All equipment came to around R1400 ,I have 2 gas bottles outside 14kg each.

Actually they said the cage is not a requirement in/for Centurion. a Chain to hold the 19kg bottle was, so that was done.

It really is that easy. Only problem is that insurance won't pay out if you don't have a certificate of compliance.

I have two compliant, certified installations at home (randburg), one with a pair of 48KG bottles and one with a single. No cage.

I know i use gas every now and again but if it was n permanent thing I'd rather get the pros. I just don't trust explosives and yes the petrol in my car bothers me everyday.
 
Old topic. I bought a gas hob, ran a gas line under 2 cupboards to a 9kg cylinder...easy peasy. Now insurance wants a COC. Rules say "Approved flexible gas hose may not be more than two meters long and may not go through any partition (including wood, dry wall, cupboard wall etc)" So my DIY is non compliant. But as I read it anyone with a cylinder in a cupboard using a flex hose to the hob is non compliant as the hose will pass through a cupboard wall....So now I probably need to get a pro to install sleeved gas piping under the cupboards? What a PITA
