Hi Guys

How would DNS work if you have a dedicated server with a provider like Xneelo ? I will have a couple of domains on my dedicated box.

thanks
Kitty

Where you host the domain content doesn't really have a bearing on where the DNS for the domain is hosted.. wherever DNS for the domains are currently should be fine with the contents hosted on xneelo dedicated server..

I guess if you have WHM/cPanel installed you can edit your DNS settings in there as well, if not, Cloudflare will also do.

Would one need a separate DNS server or does that come bundled with Cpanel ?
Your DNS does not need to move from where it is currently hosted.. you simply edit the DNS zone at your existing DNS provider to update your website A and mail records to the new IP addresses..

If you are hosting with a company they already have a DNS server setup. cPanel is only the control panel and allows you to edit your DNS records. You can always use Cloudflare and change your Nameservers to the ones they provide for full DNS control over your domains, its Free.

Since you're hosting with Xneelo I'm sure you can edit your DNS record on there?

I guesss the part I need clarity on is, does Cpanel setup your Bind as well, and if not, how does it update your DNS records if my Bind is on another machine ?

If you have a domain with a company in the USA and you have web hosting in South-Africa all you need to do is point your A record to the South-African servers IP address, this will “bind” your domain to that hosting account.

I would suggest that if you only want to edit your DNS record you can use Cloudflare since its free and very easy to use.

Quick question: what are you actually trying to do? Can you give us a detailed explanation?

I can now confirm that with konsoleH you are able to edit your DNS records, so what is the main problem then?
