I have four domains for which I don't use hosting features.
  • Two domains have only MX records configured (one for Gmail and one for Zoho).
  • One is a .com domain configured for use with Netlify
  • One is a .co.za alias for the .com domain
Netlify doesn't do DNS, so I need to have four hosting accounts when I only need DNS. l thought I could at least park the .co.za domain on the hosting account for the .com domain, but then Axxess won't let me change the name servers.

Compounding this, is that I actually have more than the four mentioned that are in similar states. Is there a place where I can just get DNS services, or am I stuck paying for hosting I don't use?

Should be able to do it on Cloudflare too.
If not, domains, as Thor said.

I migrated mine from free service to free service, now on cloudflare

Gandi gives free dns and a free mailbox if you use them as the registrar of the domain.

Have you tried Cloudflare?

I use google cloud DNS. $0.20 per domain and $0.40 per Million queries.
Support 10000 resource records per domain.
4 Domains you looking at $1 max per month with 500 000 DNS queries.

I use https://dnsmadeeasy.com/ , for ONLY dns hosting. They are a specialised DNS hosting company and have a few cool features that only a few international hosting companies use , one of those others being AWS.

Cloudflare or something like DigitalOcean / Vultr (traditional VPS type hosts, but offer free DNS hosting too).

Personally host my domain records in Amazon Route53.
Currently 4x domains cost $2,30/month so R34,72 (got my invoice today)
If you want to automate against your domain records, IMHO nothing beats R53, but obviously personal opinion.

+1.
Route53 has way more features, cost $0.50 per domain $0.30 more then Google DNS but after 25 domains the cost is $0.10 per domain.

Final choice was between Amazon Route53 and DNS Made Easy but chose DNS Made Easy due to lower costs but it still has many of the features that Amazon uses.Cant go wrong with either.
