Do I need a TV box or not?

I still have my DSTV decoders wired up to two TVs, but do not use them. Can I just put a freeeview box in place of each decoder? I use PAYG for internet, and think internet based servies would be too expensive, as I am only here 50% of the time. Would an aerial be better?
