Do I pull this or screw it?

Connected to the same decoder? DSTV?
Which model? Lots of issues with DSTV these days involving pic no sound, sound no pic, failed outputs on RF and optic even HDMI.
Might not even be the TV.

Really? It would be a bonus if the TV still works.

Yes, same decoder, DSTV. Fault is with an old Samsung Series 4. You've given me hope that a plug or connector's packed up because it's weird how the screen just suddenly went black.

Now that you mention it sound and picture have been freezing briefly intermittently over the last few weeks, almost like a hiccup. It seemed to happen over an hour or two then settle down.

4 times a day, every time MC does their service authentication checks. Between midnight and 1, 6 - 7, midday - 1, and then 6 - 7 in the evening.
Worse on older model decoders.
Sometimes requires a reboot to sort out.
Added to that, a very old error creeping back due to the changes being made on transponder usage, is the E16 error on some channels. When this happens the decoder freezes and live TV stops and won't recover. TV goes black and stays like that until a channel change is a reboot.
What channel are having this problem on? If e-tv 194 then the issue is the E16 error.

Hmm, you're right there seem to be all sorts of issues. The jittery pics and sound were probably around midday - 1 so probably their authentication checks - who would've thunk!

Decoder is an Explora 2A and Channel 132 is the one that went black. I couldn't see error messages or anything but from what you've said it's worth setting up the old Series 4 and checking again, will do that over the weekend. Thanks for the useful info.

I have been monitoring the picture/audio hick-ups on the 2A for some time now and found that it normally takes place at around 50 minutes before the hour ie 06:52 09:55 16:49 etc. and then there is a second one about 1-2 minutes later. What I have also determined is that the this corresponds exactly with the time reflected on the VOD states as the last update time. What is also interesting is that the problem is not reflected in the decoder buffer. If you rewind straight after it happened and replay that portion there is no hick-up visible. It seem like there are some interruption of power to some components in the decoder during the VOD update process.

I'll keep an eye out when it happens again, thanks.

Your're right, I got the E16!

Ja the service truly crap again today! What is even more annoying, if E16 strikes on a channel where recordings are set, the recordings fail, and won't resume until you do a channel change at least.

Irritating  you're usually recording because you aren't watching TV.

Exactly! So it is really irritating to come back to the TV and find that what wanted to record is now missing.
The whole point of a PVR driven by an EPG, is to record what you want to watch later. The more DSTV messes up the basics, the less value there is in their entire offering.
