Good luck.. not ever going to happen.. but if the fine is only R500 then it's more lenient than dbn where the fine is r1500

Uhm... it actually happens. Happened to a few of us at work already.

They take your phone, give your simcard back, then you have to go fetch your phone 2 days later at the traffic department after paying a R750 release fine or something like that.

Edit: Here's an article on it; http://www.iol.co.za/motoring/industry-news/you-get-fine-your-phone-goes-to-jail-1.1335554

I think it will become a standard item on cars in the future. What happened to saturnz? Did he have a meeting with the rear-ender in a dark lonely alley to sort out the claim ?

I'm waiting for the repair quotes to come back. Legal fees will be around 3k if the guy behind me tries to put the blame on me and around R800 if the process goes smoothly. The process of claiming will take about 18-24 months.

Estimated cost of repair is around 70k and it will take 3 months to do so in all it could take atleast two years before the car is on the road again.

Would not let a cop relieve me of my cellphone for all the tea in china.

He wants my cellphone, he will have to give me something of equal value as surety.

**EDIT** Then again, I have a Bluetooth system in my car, so no need to hold my phone to my face whilst talking.

Well when I assumed it was the Delta Motor Corporation of South Africa Opel Monza 160i GSi Car of the Year 1991 you said
maybe your dumb head will grasp this, you came to the conclusion I was driving a specific car, without me actually confirming it, then you accepted it as fact and now you just going on as if you know what car I was driving.
Then we all figured it was a BMW E36 318i with an M badge on the boot lid and go faster stripes over the bonnet, roof and boot lid too.

But since it is confirmed...

I actually didn't confirm the car, I merely confirmed that you answered your own question which you denied.

So you are going to try and hit the guy down for the R70k repair bill or just the R20k value of the vehicle?

I'm going to do what is going to cost his insurance (and by implication the guy) the most. Hopefully that will increase his premiums significantly for the rest of his life.
