I need to get cheap carpets and so far I have R110.00sqm - but I'm told OK Bazaars has cheaper carpets.

Thing is I haven't seen one for ages and can't even get a home page :(

Do they exist?

OK Furniture still exists as part of Shoprite Checkers. Just don't ask me where a store is :/

They do exist ... think I saw one whilst driving through the rural Eastern Cape last year ... doubt you'll find anything on the web though ...

The CEO was on the radio about 6 months ago saying they are going through re-branding and relaunch but that the OK brand was too important to kill in South Africa.

I'd guess the current retail trade conditions may have slowed plans.

They're not actually that cheap then (or R110sqm is cheap for a carpet).

They're R80.00 excluding under felt and fitment - whereas my R110.00 includes everything

The OK Bazaars group was sold to the Shoprite Group many years ago. The old OK stores included furniture within the supermarket. This was split to form independant 'OK Furniture' stores and the supermarkets were rebranded to Shoprite or to Checkers stores. There are over to 150 furniture stores so finding one should not be that difficult.

The "OK Foods" brand is used for the smaller convenience supermarkets within the group. These are all franchised and all the old Sentra stores were converted to OK Foods or OK Grocer Stores.

beat me to it

THEY EXIST.

Yup beat me to it, i get rolls there on a sat night. Tho its not the type he is looking for. Last big OK store i saw was on victoria rd in plumstead but thats been taken over by shoprite.

You still see OK Bazaar adverts on TV, so they do exist.

The Ads on TV would either be for 'OK Furniture' or 'OK Foods' there are no more OK Bazaars big supermarkets. The OK Foods are small format supermarkets like a KwikSpar or a 7/11.

Not really, i have to roll down the mountain pass the main road pass the cricket fields, schools etc to get there. Problem with claremont is there is no friendly backery/store nearby here, usually we use to get it at the shop in lansdowne road opposite the police/telkom/vodacom exchange but they make their rolls in the morning only nowadays which kinda sucks as they don't package it, thus rolls go stale. Other closest store with rolls is like kenilworth 2/3 way to wynberg on main rd(i dunno why i stopped buying there) and the bakery on Engen is usually out of rolls (opposite mcathy + new pick-n-pay) hrm -snap- i must check out that claremont pick-n-pay bakery if they open in evening.. problem is its been crowded since opening.

Reminds me, there use to be a OK store on the station side of claremont main road too.. tho i think that's closed down :-/
