Do owls attack people and animals? I did some research online, but found mixed answers. I'd like to know if there are any animal experts here who can answer my questions definitively.

I moved into a new neighbourhood recently and I've twice seen an owl. The thing kept following me with it's head and eyes and I was too scared to turn my back to it. I don't know whether the SPCA can come get it or not as I've only ever seen it at night.

It worries me, because I have a small Jack Russell and I have to let her out in the evenings and don't always want to follow her outside. Plus there was a series SABC used to run years ago - can't remember the name- that my mind keeps going to.

I don't want any harm to come to the bird, but can the SPCA catch it and maybe relocate it?

Need to check your self in to an institution. You are a liability to yourself

Yeah, I've lost several family members to owls.

We had an owl in the neighbourhood for a couple of years though I haven't seen him \ her in awhile. No-one in the complex lost anything (pets, eyes, ears) and there are lots of Jack Rusell-sized dogs around + cats + eyes / ears etc.

I've never heard of an owl attacking a human or pet...be glad you have something that beautiful to look at...they are gorgeous animals.

Cool creature...sad that you want it removed from your neighborhood :(. I'm sure your dog will be fine - never heard of owls attacking dogs like that. Leave some marshmallow mice out to distract it.

The owls eat rats, rats are known to chew on babies, dogs, ears etc etc

Owls are great. Have 2 in my neighbourhood.

Although I can understand somebody being spooked as they go from one house to another calling. Walking down the street it can seem like they are stalking you with an eye on removing your ear :erm:

^^This

... of course if you had a Yorkie then you could worry - not sure they're classified as true dogs though :)

It's actually not funny or a joke :erm: just Google if owls attack humans or animals and see how many articles you come up with. I see lots of articles of people and animals being attacked and an equal amount of articles stating that they're harmless.

Yeah but people and animals can be attacked by all kinds of predators out there. Hell this is Africa after all.

If an owl for some reason has a taste for small dogs like Jack Russells there are plenty others to choose from in the neighbourhood I'm sure

I'm sure owls are beautiful, but I'd rather see it on my tv. Or maybe not. I can't remember the name of series, but the owl went around terrorising people or someone used it to terrorise people. Can't remember which. Darn freaky show.
