Do Owls attack people and animals?

It's actually not funny or a joke :erm: just Google if owls attack humans or animals and see how many articles you come up with. I see lots of articles of people and animals being attacked and an equal amount of articles stating that they're harmless.

actually it is funny

and silly

I'm sure owls are beautiful, but I'd rather see it on my tv. Or maybe not. I can't remember the name of series, but the owl went around terrorising people or someone used it to terrorise people. Can't remember which. Darn freaky show.
Are you bossies?

while owls have been known to dive/attack people near their nests they are not likely to attack your dog.

and

news flash
the owl(s) will stay as they were there first.

The teaser is probably more convincing

I would give my left kidney to have an owl live in my yard... :( Maybe sell the place and mention that there are owls... im sure youll sell the place quicker that way

I really don't understand people here sometimes. Some of you act like you don't have your own issues :rolleyes:

And I found the series. It was called 'Ululu ubuyile' a Xhosa horror series that played on TV SA about an owl that terrorised people. If I remember correctly they would kill it, but it would keep coming back for revenge.

And for the record I'm not afraid of birds. I'm just not comfortable with owls outside of the zoo or tv..

That thing is huge.

OP, do you have any superstitious fears about owls or is this a question that comes from an actual mortal fear?

Don't know where these ideas that owls will harm people come from. We were lucky enough to have one chilling outside the door to our flat on a railing for a while. And it has to be a REALLY big owl to see a Jack Russel as potential food.

Just get a hanger :o

OP - on a more serious note, the owl is around because there is stuff to eat in your neighbourhood (rodents, pidgeons, insects, lizards). If there are reports in your local paper (can't remember the name for those ultra-focused little newspapers that get distributed specifically for an area like this one, for example http://roodepoortnorthsider.co.za/) of pets being eaten by Mr Owl, I would be very surprised. Until then, just relax a little.

For the record, I do have at least one irrational fear...confined spaces. Makes trips to see caves a lot more interesting :o
