Do Owls attack people and animals?

My sister-in-law's short-legged Jack Russell puppy was killed by an owl. It tried to carry him off - didn't get very far, but the damage the talons did, and the damage from the fall did enough to kill him. He was just in the wrong place at the wrong time, and the owl was just trying to do what came naturally - not its fault at all.

It's a scout. Once it has determined you are tasty-looking enough the entire swarm will descend on your home to eat everyone. Some may be taken back to their lair to become slaves. I've heard that there have been cases of owl hordes working for witches.

Was it some of the local tribespeople in South Africa that were killing owls because of an idiotic superstition?

Even if the owl grabs your JR, it will probably return him for wearing it out.

I'm an "animal expert" the Owl is harmless and beautiful. There so now it's settled

Okay I lied i'm not an animal expert just a rational human being.

I really don't understand people here sometimes. Some of you act like you don't have your own issues :rolleyes:

And I found the series. It was called 'Ululu ubuyile' a Xhosa horror series that played on TV SA about an owl that terrorised people. If I remember correctly they would kill it, but it would keep coming back for revenge.

And for the record I'm not afraid of birds. I'm just not comfortable with owls outside of the zoo or tv..
You know it is just a fictional story, right?
Leave the owl. He is harmless. I have an owl who lives in the trees next door. He is lovely. I have three cats. I would be more worried about neighbours and burglars poisoning your dog.

It's the ducks you have to worry about. Those things are fearless. They don't care if you are male or female, fragile or fit. They will attack. Hide your children, hide your wife and go hide yourself.

Seeings though a Jack Russel is just an overgrown rat, you need to be very worried.

Or maybe just set the kid free that's living under your stair case.

I'm putting up an owl house next weekend for the one that chills on my braai chimney.

For OP, an owl eating a Jack Russel

Are you building or buying one?
I would quite like to build a owl and bat box but dont really know where to start.

3 suggestions

1) get a weight belt for the dog - available at dive shops
2) use protective eyewear at night in any area you have spotted the owl
3) avoid eye contact

Do owls attack people and animals? I did some research online, but found mixed answers. I'd like to know if there are any animal experts here who can answer my questions definitively.

I moved into a new neighbourhood recently and I've twice seen an owl. The thing kept following me with it's head and eyes and I was too scared to turn my back to it. I don't know whether the SPCA can come get it or not as I've only ever seen it at night.

It worries me, because I have a small Jack Russell and I have to let her out in the evenings and don't always want to follow her outside. Plus there was a series SABC used to run years ago - can't remember the name- that my mind keeps going to.

I don't want any harm to come to the bird, but can the SPCA catch it and maybe relocate it?

Just make your tinfoil hat from two layers...it will protect you against owls.
