Hi Everyone,

Please may you assist me. I have a Toyota Corrolla 1.6 with Continental Sports Contact 1 Tyres. According to Tiger Wheel and Tyre he front 2 need replacing. The car is only on 39000 KMs and none of the tyres have ever been replaced. Was quoted around 1850 to get them replaced, including alignment and balancing.

Please advise if they need replacing or if they have a certain amount of KMs left on them?
Any opinions/advise or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks:D

The tyres look fine, but tyres do get aged too. How old are they?

I am not sure about the expiry date. How do you find out?

Bought the car new in august 2009. How often do you rotate and align or balance the tires?

Yes. They are about level with the treadwear indicators (perpendicular band on photo 2).

Looks legal to me, but tending towards sketchy.

I'd still drive, but take extra care for aqua-planing.

Those tires are tired.
The wear indicators are there for a reason. They indicate that the tires have worn down past safe levels.

Yip, what dj_jyno and pezula said. Those tyres are prtty much on the treadwear indicators... You might squeeze a few more km out of them at a push but I wouldn't risk it. Rather just be safe and get two new tyres.

But phone around and find the best price you can. I have picked up big differences between TWT and Autowiel (where Autowiel is normally a good deal cheaper) as an example. So dont just take their price as being the best and the one to take.

On a FWD car, the front tyres will wear much faster than a RWD. Yours appear to have come to the end of their useful life. I would shop around for a cheaper price. Tyger Wheel and Tyre are not known for best prices. In CT, Good Hope Tyres can get you a better price

will get them replaced next week. Tiger wheel quoted me 1993. Super quick 1980 and rivonia tires are about 1880. What you think?

On the side of the tyre there's a bunch of numbers like 195/55R15, what's on yours?

What make and model tires do you currently have fitted?

There's no need to put the same make and model tire back on.

Its a 205/55 R16 91 V
I have Continental Sports Contact 1

To me it looks fine. Its close to reaching the same level as the TWI.
Also how much mileage should these tires normally last for?

Once they reach the TWI it's the legal limit for driving on them.

Front tyres on FWD cars last anything from 30 000KM to 80 000KM depending on the tire, car and your driving style.

My car takes the same size tyres, I paid R1200 to get one replaced that got a screw though the side wall a couple of months back, but that was for a Michelin XM2 tire, so R2k to get two replaced is a fair price. Phone around to the different shops and get prices from everyone as the prices can vary wildly between shops. I got quoted 3 different prices from 3 different Tiger Wheels & Tyres, if I recall correctly it ranged from about R1200 to R1500 at the different shops for the same tire.

Will do that. Thanks for the help. The pic i uploaded may not show it accuratly, but to me they about 1mm from those TWI indicators in Pic 1.

So far TWT said they can do it at 1858 for both
