I normaly don't use food pass the Use by Date. I waste a lot of food. I found this website http://www.stilltasty.com/ I have eaten food past the sell by date not looking at the date and it was still ok. Do food producers put these dates on to sell more products or is this for heath and safety. As with homemade food do you eat left overs the next day or 2

In most cases food should be still fine, in fact there was a shop or two in Cape town that was selling past sell by date food.

I also do that. No eating anything that's passed the date. I also never buy bread etc if it doesn't have at least 3 days left before expiring. As for homemade food, if it was made in the evening and the left overs refrigerated, i'd still eat it the following morning, depending on what it was, but by the afternoon it's throw away. And yes, it's a huge waste, especially since I don't have a dog to eat it all up :(

I'm not heavy on it and will eat stuff past use by dates and I'm still here and have not gotten sick. I just trust my nose & taste buds. I can't believe people throw cooked food away by the next day, hell I make big stews, curries & briyani especially to keep. Breyani I will store in the fridge and munch it for and entire week. love cold breyani :D
