Actually not. A well run postal service is considered a necessity worldwide and not having one is the reason we aren't part of the global economy. Those saying how couriers can replace the PO haven't shown that they've actually done so. Package rates have gone up from R25 to R100. Receiving international goods costs R300. That to me isn't couriers doing a good job but simply taking advantage of the situation we have where people will just accept anything else if they don't have to deal with the PO.Only boomers would think they need the post office, the rest of us use electronic mail or a courier service.
We do need SOE Post Office, it still does play an important role in delivering services such as Old age pension, and postal service to rural areas.Does South Africa need a state owned post office?
Is postal delivery in these times obsolete or is there a genuine need for it?
