Thoughts? (note I am not an anti-vaxxer). My vet says no more vaccs for my two older cats and only every three years for the two younger ones. Even the SAVC's guidelines state every 3 years. Unfortunately, most boarding kennels insist on annual vaccs plus snuffles/kennel cough. The holistic vet I sometimes use says she has found with titre testing for rabies, some animals are over 7 times the limit of what's safe.

I've also wondered about that. We take our pets in once a year on the insistence of our vet.

I take mine to the SPCA once a year for his injection.
I just stick to that vet card :)

Vaccinated once. Then neutered once. That's it. My pet lived for 16 years and died of old age with not ailments. She was happy and played till the night she went to sleep and never woke up.

IMO, vaccinating so often is way too much, unless you force a big dog on a 2x2 meter balcony on the 4th floor, then expect some sicknesses

No. we do not over do it.

I foster Kittens for Cats-are-Us. Parvo is horrible. and you cannot vaccinate before 7 weeks.

if your cats do not have the up to date vaccine against Parvo and a cat nearby gets it you most likely lost a pet.
our first foster litter of 6 cats all died of Parvo in 2 days. Vomit, 12 hours of sleepy kitty then permanent sleepy kitty.

sure there is a bit to much protection against Rabies, but the lukimia, Feline Aids and Parvo you need to do yearly.

Yeah Parvo is a bastard - it's very rare that a dog / cat gets it and pulls through.

A couple hundred rand to prevent spending thousands at the vet and seeing your animal(s) suffer seems like the best thing to do...

WTF is a "holistic"vet?

Holistic medicine is the art and science of healing that addresses the whole person – body, mind, and spirit. The practice of holistic medicine integrates conventional and alternative therapies to prevent and treat disease, and most importantly, to promote optimal health.

I was desperate, OK?.

I agree that first vaccs plus booster are important, but I think after that, every 3 years should be OK. In terms of the SAVC guidelines f course.
Bear in mind my cats are indoor cats. I would imagine outdoor cats may be a different story, depending on their contact with unvaccinated or unsterilized cats outdoors.
Also rabies is a concern, as I understand there have been a few cases in Gauteng the last few months (Mooinooi and Centurion)

Yep. It didn't work.

If it doesn't work in humans it certainly won't work in pets, and the funny thing is that the placebo effect is negated with pets so the lack of results are even easier to determine...

Yes the homeopathic meds she prescribed did not work, but some of the natural remedies she recommended were useful e.g. milk thistle for liver problems and slippery elm for tummy troubles. But that info is freely available anyway.
