Yes, very basic internet of course.

It's not a finite resource and can contribute to the upliftment of basic living conditions in the country, I think it should be looked at.

On some Mobile ISP's you have free access to basic news and social media services already, ad driven of course but the point is it is well within the realm of possibility.

Most things humans think of as a basic human right is not that at all. In fact, I can not think of a real human right besides the right not to pollute. So much for that right....

yes, because so many basic things depend on it,
from shopping to education to work to travel,
you need the internet in everyday life.

problem comes in SA, with our Electricity supply, and then the Sewage,
and then the water supply, and then numerous other things that are much more basic.
like Traffic lights, potholes, and it goes on and on.

fix those first, then consider universal internet.

Do you believe access to the internet is a basic human right? And if so, will the government's plan to provide households with free data help achieve this?
Yes, which can be provided via a Library, as in thr future, we wont need the hardcopies as much. It will be niche product like music. The vast majority of the written word should be consumed/read electronically. This frees up the space for providing internet. Heavily filtered of course. They dont need data for porn etc. It should be STEM related and/or jobs vacancies or similar.

Internet access can never be free and therefor can never be a human right. The closest thing to a human right is to have air to breathe but that is also not really a right, it is more like a gift of God that we should be thankful for, instead we destroy and pollute it.

Easier to deflect attention from their shortcomings with all these fancy promises than to actually fix anything.

What does "access to the internet" mean?

- No-one should be prevented by law from accessing the internet;

- someone else must pay for you to use the internet if you can't afford to?
No

More like a basic service, say a 0.5Mb connection, so you can do basic things, news, job search, communicate etc etc

Just for those that are thick, private proper internet still available as normal.

Ah, ok. So for you a little bit of government expropriation of other people's property is ok.

Got it.
What property?

No it'll be tax funded, like healthcare, social services, police and forensic services, etc etc
