I regularly get above 110kB/s about 90% of the time for international but only if I download between 10 and 20 threads at a time. I NEVER get above 100kB/s if I download only one thread.

Slim,
I gotta agree with you as I get good constant speeds and no disconnects for most of the month.
I have noticed a slowdown in the last two days of the month but that is mostly due to everyone trying to use up their remaining b/w before the start of the next month.

However, I don't download much during the day as I am at work so I can't really comment about that, but mostly my experience with IBurst has been good, Except for the beginning of last month (July) when they experimented (my view) with the PTA towers and their Bandwidth Manager. Currently getting very close to 1 Meg fairly constantly and I haven't even tried to find my "sweet spot". I know that I am constantly being flip-flopped between two towers, Erasmus Park and Centurion, Shaun has given me pointers on how to ensure that my signal only comes from one of them, but quite frankly I just couldn't be bothered.

Heavy multi-tabbed/multi-media browsing or downloading using a multithreaded download manager (Net Transport), I invariably average 120kB/S-130kB/s.

This can drop to 60kB/s-80kB/s during weekdays and early evenings. However, I usually defer download and heavy internet use to late night/early morning.

Initial response to http requests is rather slow (DNS search? Proxy cache access?) But things then fly on susbsequent requests.

To me this is by far the most disappointing charateristic of the current WBS/iBurst service.

This latency makes the iBurst experience seem slower than ADSL and even my old ISDN sometimes. My wife, who doesnt give a toss about Mbps or anything like that, has the perception that iBurst is 'crap' compared to our old ISDN.

This is totally due to the browsing response sluggishness. How many other non-technical people get this perception ... WBS you listening?
