Do you have a 4K Ready connection?

I can upgrade to c.40Mbps but I'll stick at 10Mbps until pricing improves.

And how many have 4K TV's? I think it is more important to focus on getting more people ready to stream HD, which many people still can't.

Even if I could I wouldn't HD is fine for watching on my small 50" tv.

Maybe when I get a 100" in 5 years time it would be worthwhile.

Akamai recently released its Q2 2014 State of the Internet Report, which showed that only 1.4% of South Africans have Internet connections which can support 4K streaming.

Utter BS, maybe 0.14% of South Africans.

Naa have you seen how they load a taxi or bakkie going accross the border? They can fit at least 3 and a goat.

Then stop buying flat screens. You might need a separate room for the TV and have to knock down a wall in-between.

Lol.

Good luck trying to find an ISP in SA that won't [shape/actively manage/prioritize/monitor] 4K video streams on their network !

Jeez.. with my ISP shaping after 100 Gig.. I would barely watch 720p..

I wonder how Akamai settled on 15 Mbps as the requirement for 4K? From what I can find on Google, Netflix HD (1080) streaming require 6-12 Mbps already. Isn't 4K 4 times the content of HD? So you would need a lot more than 15 Mbps, unless they compress it more?

This is exactly what they do. Most (if not all) 4K implementations are using HEVC now, much more efficient.
