Not really viable for everyone to extract ground water in a densely populated area. Not much point storing water when most of the rain comes during winter.

No mention in the article about installing a fire pool

For Zuma, the party is over

That pool needs a big dose of chemicals to deal with the parasite floating in the water.

What "level of filtration" do these devices provide?

Like, can you hook one of these up to the pump from the rainwater Jojo tank and supply:

Kitchen tap (washing dishes, etc)
Washing machine
Geyser
Drinking water

Right now I feel like they are underutilizing the Jojo... and in the event of a water shortage/supply issues, they'd just have a cache of rainwater which only does so much.
Depends on what filter cartridges you install. My mother have the same filtration system and also harvests rainwater.
They use the same filters as me. 5 mic, carbon, 1 mic then UV sterilizer. Water comes out 100% clean.

Yes, 26 Kiloliters of water stored on the property, borehole and rainwater harvested.

Just need to get a proper UV filter system installed now as the e-coli levels are a bit high, so at the moment I can only use it for irrigation.
But hopefully with UV filtration can also use it for washing and showering.

Other - I harvest rainwater into a 5 kL Jojo. It is not used as a backup supply for drinking or showering. It is used for the garden and the pool.

Although to be honest it is pretty pointless when there is a lot of rain. The last two summer seasons we had enough rain to constantly water the garden and keep the pool full (way too full). So the tank just sits there filled to the brim with water overflowing. When the rain stops during winter it takes all of 1 week to empty the tank into the garden and then it sits empty until we get rains again.

Hopefully, when El Nino comes around again and rain becomes scarce in summer it will add more value between rainy periods.

10kl in jojo ,75kl in swimming pool, borehole ,filters with uv.preppers say you need 5litres of drinking water per person per day minimum .seperate from any other water supply .4 loose 260 lt jojo/eco urban dispensers ,easy to keep clean and cycle monthly ,easy to move around and cheap to buy .its amazing how thirsty you get on day 9 of no municipal water .

Lots of sediment and crap in my ground water
Ah - ok. We just have a simple inline filter like this to get rid of the chewy bits.

Every couple of weeks I chuck in shockit (1g per 100l) so we can use the rain water for everything but drinking. We pay R1/l for RO water which is fine and it saves me the effort of doing it.

every home should have at least one of these ,its easy to store indoors ,takes up no more room than an oversized person ,cuts stress .

That filter is upside down

I don't water the garden

Shock it is simple enough and readily available.

Because that matters... mine's fitted horizontally.
Like in the pic ? With the screw lid facing upwards ?

No - flat - parallel to the ground. Pointing down the intake pipes are in the way and pointing up it stops the lid for the enclosure closing.

Not that it matters - 5bar is enough to push the water through the unit regardless of what direction it's facing.

Many experts have warned that the next major crisis in South Africa will be the supply and availability of clean water. Do you have a backup water system to mitigate this?
For my matric exam (1990) we had to write an essay on: What major headlines would dominate the news in South Africa in the year 2000?

My essay: Major drought and water shortages hit South Africa. (So I was out by about a decade)

Little did I know that the ANC would fuk this up so monumentally!

Funny enough with our current drought restrictions we're not allowed to store municipal water so unless you're filling it from another source it's a no-no.

What? So like using eskom to charge your inverter and batteries? No thanks.
