do you have braces on your teeth? had? considering?

Geez it's expensive just to get to get a price or plan :

First part of your consultation fee for 2017 is R 485.00.

If orthodontic treatment is indicated, the second part of your first consultation will be charged on the day
of your consultation. This will include 2 x-rays, 8 diagnostic photographs and a full detailed treatment
plan. The balance for these charges in the amount of R 2 215.00 needs to be paid on the day by either debit
or credit card.

After about a week in starting to eat normal foods again. Lisp hasn't gone yet. Pain and everything else has subsided by now. Gotten use to wearing it, just not talking properly yet.

It really does get better, all I really missed was biting into apples, ribs and chicken wings.
This will sound weird, but I actually missed them when they first took them off, my teeth looked too big and my mouth felt weird.

I also strongly recommend getting the wax for the steel bits at the end of the teeth if they start scratching you. Eventually your gums will toughen up and you wont need them, but in the beginning it really helped.

Also carry around those inter dental small kind of brush things, its disgusting, but food easily gets stuck and sometimes its damn hard to get rid of it. Those brush things work super fast

Thank you! I had my first adjustment last week. Was painful for two days only. I still have my lisp though...
I got use to the poking very quickly. My gums have toughened up already.

each adjustment is different, ive had a few that were relatively easy, others where it was uncomfortable, and some where the wires just dug in horribly. After a year though my mouth was resistant to pretty much anything!
Not sure if the orthodontics will fix the lisp, or if you got the lisp from the orthodontics?
my speech did change for the first few months, probably got used to it around month 3 or 4 i think.

Lisp I got from the braces...

So I've had braces for about 6 months now, initially I dreaded it and really hated it. It was only painful for about the first week, after that every time I had a tightening done it was only "sore" for a week. I only had the top braces put on for the first 6 months to correct my bite and a small lateral incisor. My bottom set is going to be straightened now. I will update in 6 months again.

How long do you have to go?

I ended up doing the initial consult for the above (haven't taken it further yet) and he said 12-8 months for me. I wanted to get the invisible braces on top though.

How was medical aid ?

@yree33 Your tip has reached them many, many years too late. According to the recent polls on MyBroadband, 98.7% of the participants in this forum no longer give a shyte what they look like.

Thanks anyways!

I had it for four years from 2013-2017. My teeth used to be terrible as a kid and into my teenage years. My treatment set my parents back 30k if I remember. It has likely gone up now.

Stopped using the retainer. Now I have a diastema (gap between the two front teeth).

Had braces.. learnt to live with it and then it was removed.. i like pain a lot now and i have straight teeth apparently.
