Hi

Do you Guys & Girls , leave your Router on 24 Hrs, or do you switch it off when you go to work ?.
Whats your thoughts on switching the Router off.

Thanks

always on. I only turn it off when there is lightening about...

I don't see the point of switching it off.

Always on. Even if I have issues with my line. Almost all my equipment inter communicate with each other via the router (both wired and wireless).

Never turned mine off, even when we're visiting the in-laws for a few days.

Current uptime is 36-days.

And even then, it was only reset because of a firmware update.

Are your routers behind any form of lightning protection?

Mine is only off when Eskom decides it's time to loadshed my area

Same with me, unless there is an absolutely massive storm right above me.

The router I have came with some form of lightning protection (for the phone line, unsure about the power).

Mine's only behind the filter. Then again, all cables carrying electricity in our area run underground so I suspect it isn't nearly as susceptible to lightning as cables in some of the older neighborhoods are.

Also, lightning down here isn't nearly as bad as it is up north :)

I leave my router on 24/7. The only time its off is when there is lightning and power failures.

The question is rather WHY would you want to turn it off?

These devices are designed to stay on 24/7/365.

stays on all the time, I only switch off and disconnect my modem during storms, router stays on 24/7

Lightning?

Also, remember that the phone line is also metal, so just as susceptible to a lightning strike as the power cable.

I lost a modem and an ethernet port on a computer in a lightning strike (missus pulled out power cables but forgot about phone cable before a storm).
