Do you eat and drink every day?

Why would you not own a firearm and sufficient ammunition when living in a country with a civil war raging? More than 70 people killed a day - that is 3 times the number of people killed per day in other war-torn countries like Ukraine and all of those in Africa.

Its actually not so bad...you just have to have the mindset thats its 6 months at least of waiting and some faffing around for the paperwork but if you sort things out quicker, bonus for you...
Biggest shlepp for me was waiting on the DFO here and there to show up to his office...

(At least these days you dont have to wait for the card before you can collect you weapon)

Care to elaborate on the "red tape".

If you start today, on an average estimate you'll have your FA at home within nine [9] months, if you still obviously have to do your proficiency training, and then submit and wait for your competency from SAPS.

As mentioned, you can now collect your FA with a "printout" from your local Police Station, so that alone knocks off about 6 weeks of waiting for your physical license card.

All I will say is, and yes it might sound corny, “It's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.”

I apologise, I have no knowledge about the procedures involved in getting a gun. Just repeating from what I have heard it's quite a process. A good reminder to not speak on matters you have no knowledge about.

Like on all topics and subjects, there's always "braai stories" involved.

I have a very bad temper - like I’m a fireball. So; not yet. Until I’ve resolved those temper issues I won’t be having any firearm or any weapon around me. I fell like with age I’m getting better. I also feel like even though SA is a violent country, I have never felt unsafe anywhere. I grew up in the township. I’m streetwise so yeah I’m good for now. Above all else. I’m fearless.

No need to apologise.

It is a bit of a process and effort, and takes time.

But, it is absolutely doable for everyone who is serious about it.

Most of the people who claim it is ‘too much red tape’ are lazy or looking for excuses.

If you want it, it is possible.

Jip and if you want double digit guns, just need money to buy them and submit application fees.
