Mostly to fit in socially or they think they're missing something.
Strangest part is how nasty it is the first few times, but doesn't stop them
Nobody, and I mean nobody enjoys their first cigarette. The best way to quit is never to start. That's the only advice you can give people. Once you start, you'll be a smoker for life. You can quit for 10 years and still get cravings.

It's hypnosis on the brain, your subconscious mind is convinced it's good for you now after you overrode it in the beginning when your body was rejecting it.

Have to really believe you can stop. And be patient with yourself.

I have smoked since I was about 15 years old,now going on 72.
Tried everything in the book to stop excluding Champix which I was advised against by my docter due to the fact that I have suffered with depression my whole life.
Champix can make it 100 times worse and cause suicidal thoughts.
I waste more than I smoke and sometimes have three or four smokes burning at one time and never finish them.
I also have a highly addictive nature, took nearly 30 years of hell to stop drinking.
You’ve had a decent innings, even for a non smoker but how has that lifetime of smoking affected affected your lungs and health in general?
I’ve smoked a few ciggies in my time, never more than a couple a day but I’d wager one is too much.

Do doctors still advice that only real men smoke?

So far I'm still in good health and have a full time job for which I'm very grateful.

Does anyone still chew tobacco? Seems vile and crazy.
A few seniors used to when I was a lightie

Started after Army, (1980), quit a few times for 3-5 years at a time, but always started again.

Stopped in January last year, when my annual medical showed some potential of bending of the Cilia, often an early indication of the potential for Emphysema.

Well there are people who actually like rotten grape juice. They even like to compare grape juice that has been allowed to go rotten in different ways. Now that’s weird.
It’s true that, for years I couldn’t drink wine, it tasted horribly bitter and just a few sips would give me a solid headache. Fortunately I’m well last that
But I’ll never forget how vile wine initially tasted, likewise beer actually

Does anyone else remember having bad reactions to alcohol the first few try’s?
It’s technically a poison to your body.

Other - Kind of wish I still smoked, Just over a month nicotine free. I've come to realise I cant just have one cigarette or allow nicotine into my system at all otherwise its a vicious cycle, (after 15 years or so of smoking and as of the past few years vaping on and off) I do think, okay let me take a "something" break, its like a empty feeling when I grab my coffee or feel like I've worked hard and deserve a reward, but I’m no longer waking up with a swollen tongue, canker sores, a rough throat etc, my body is no longer constantly craving a substance which I suppose is good and kind of freeing in a way. I cant however help but feel like its a matter of time before I’m smoking again, there’s a constant feeling of "when will I give in" or "what kind of stressful event is going to trigger my relapse", for context throughout the 15 or so years I've stopped before but never longer than a couple days so I guess this is progress.

Sorry for the essay.

I think you can add the option, occasional smoker. Like I dont smoke for the majority of the month, then if the braai gets to a certain point I would occasionally join the smokers and "stook" a few out.
How do you feel when you're not smoking, (lets say the next few hours after your last nicotine intake) out of interest sake.

Remember, you're one puff away from a box a day. So, just don't entertain the thought.

Good Luck.

Only after sex.

Isn't that the punchline?

After Action… Satisfaction
