You would be surprised at how often I fall back on the phone book for answers, even in the city. Website maintenance, errors in contact details, wrong phone numbers where Google has not fixed up its data records, companies that move but Google has not been updated or fixed ...... I can go on and on.

As to getting recommendations from social media sources? Heaven forbid! It means actually having social media accounts and sifting the valuable 1% of stuff out of the 99% of BS .....

As to answering the question of how often I use a phone book (issued to all of us who still have fixed lines) free of charge and delivered to our gates when updated? At least twice a month.

The book is admittedly getting thinner and thinner. The PTA one is now reduced to one book with the white and yellow pages included as was/is the case with most smaller towns.

Just checked the last ~5 years of them, they're getting thinner and thinner.

I used to make rondawels out of them when I was really bored.

Haven't used one in years.

So given that 99% of businesses in South Africa do not have a F**cking CLUE about the internet with either no web presence at all or the information was from when they set up the site however many years ago and never updated since, finding accurate current information online in South Africa is beyond pathetic.

Now if only the stupid c--nts in the Post Office would actually GIVE me a phone book ...

Given that I found my builder on the yellow pages it was useful however when he asked where I had found his number and said 'yellow pages' he said that they had asked him if he wanted his number included online when they set the entire thing up but he had refused to pay the fee for the online listing. They included and billed him anyway and he said 'take it down, not paying' ... not sure how many years ago that was, but his number is still there.

So long story later - even the yellow pages as a South African business doesn't update their site and the information is unreliable in the extreme.
 
It’s so much quicker to search online, or your mobile phonebook, and now with Truecaller...

Yeah how that ends ... number no longer in use, company no longer in existence / moved / new number / couldn't give a sh-t about updating information ... phone ten times (i.e. massive waste of money) to find ANY number that actually belongs to an existing company only to speak to people who have no clue / couldn't give a d-mn / can't help / won't help ...
 
No there is no need for telephone book we now use google as our telephone book
