I had to use one the other day, you would be amazed how many businesses don't have an online presence...

Nice getting ink in your lungs...Only when I don't have any Rizlas for my weed.

When in a city, phone book not necessary as businesses have websites.
However, when in a town a phone book is needed as smaller local businesses/shops don't have a web presence.
Facebook search ftw!You would be surprised at how often I fall back on the phone book for answers, even in the city. Website maintenance, errors in contact details, wrong phone numbers where Google has not fixed up its data records, companies that move but Google has not been updated or fixed ...... I can go on and on.
As to getting recommendations from social media sources? Heaven forbid! It means actually having social media accounts and sifting the valuable 1% of stuff out of the 99% of BS .....
As to answering the question of how often I use a phone book (issued to all of us who still have fixed lines) free of charge and delivered to our gates when updated? At least twice a month.
The book is admittedly getting thinner and thinner. The PTA one is now reduced to one book with the white and yellow pages included as was/is the case with most smaller towns.
