Hybrid. 3 days at the office but it's meaningless as we're forced to alternate days to ensure somebody is in the office so effectively 99% meet over teams instead of in person with a venue change

Yeah. I mean, I'm not completely against going to the office. I agree that face-to-face helps build and maintain work relationships, and face-to-face is better for meetings, but at least make it make sense.

Once a week where you go in and bang out your two or three biggest meetings. Maybe even have lunch/drinks with the team or whatever.

If I was forced to go into the office, my ideal set up would be once in two weeks and on that day you do your backlog grooming, sprint planning and sprint retro over the course of the day.

But what you're seeing a lot is the "you must come in on Monday and Thursday every week, it doesn't matter which office site you go to, it doesn't matter if you go in and sit alone, as long as you are in the office." (which is exactly what two of the big 4 banks is currently doing)

Worked from home since COVID, only went to the office for face-to-face meetings. CEO decided everyone had to be back in the office full time from 1 May.

I try and get in once a month to get a bit of face time. Not expected but encouraged.

Funny really as I see more of colleagues in other countries in quarterly workshops than the guys in my office up the drag from the house.

Pros:
When I turn off my computer I am done for the day.
My co-workers don't disturb me at any time of the day.
Saves time.
Saves money.
I can get more done.

Cons:

My wife have to iron my clothes (trousers and shirts).

My wife would laugh at me if I asked her to iron something.

Ours is a hybrid model - we have to fulfil 10 days a month at the office - I kinda like this arrangement, would have preferred a total WFH arrangement but some people need baby sitting

So has your employer always had babysitters on staff? Are they assigned to specific employees or do they just roam the office like plantation overseers?

Hybrid. Although I am getting more and more fed up with people that take chances with WFH and will ruin it for the rest of us. So I am the a-hole who forced some people to come into the office :

Some common arguments which might be valid but is sometimes abused:
1) "I am more productive.". Just because you spend more time at your desk doesn't make you productive. The amount of wasted work because somebody gets busy with doing something that is not the right thing, regardless how cool or whatever is staggering.

2)" We can talk on Teams". Yes but you have to communicate. If you work in a team people need to know what you are busy with and when you will be complete and what the issues are. You have to let them know. Just attending Teams meetings is not communicating.

I don't get these arguments because working in an office still has the same problems. In the office is there an enforcer walking around regularly checking what everyone is doing? Why can't that same person carry out the task remotely? All in all it seems more like a weak excuse invented by someone who is looking for some way to justify forcing people to sit in the office.

I am (or was) in the tourism business before they hit us with the Covid business, and most certainly work only from home. I am a battlefield guide in Northern Natal, and do all my work from home, or with a tour in the field, when required.
