Yes. Its something I'll really want to use on myself one day. Already making a list, eg. over expressing Klotho looks like a pretty good idea.

I see no way it can be stopped, and even regulation is going to be ineffective. Even if every country try and regulate it, it will only drive the practice underground. There is no way to stop individuals experimenting with it.

Do you think human genetic modification should be allowed or do you think it should be regulated or even banned?
That's such a broad statement that needs to be properly qualified.

There is a level of genetic modification that happens naturally so you can't really be against it.
Virus and vaccines modify our genrtics.... i'm also ok with that.

To be honest, no sure. I like the idea and if research in repercussions have been done in depth and well regulated, why not ? Obviously not in the wrong hands though..

I'm 100% for this, Bioshock is not going to happen if we ban ideas like this!

Yes but only for disease, hereditary issues. Not cosmetic or sex determination.

Well it would actually have to happen on fertilised eggs.

And they already do this somewhat with people who have genetic diseases. They will harvest eggs from the mother, fertilise them, then do a DNA analysis to see if an egg has the genetic disease. Then only implant eggs that are free from the defect. Gene editing is already mainstream with GMOs, so we understand the mechanisms very well.

As to the people who will think it will further increase the gap between the rich and the poor: like all technologies, it will start off only being the provision of the rich, then flow to the middle class, then flow to the poor. Cellphones for example were only for rich people. Now you can buy one at pick and pay for R100.
So long as the government doesn't get a hold of it and make everyone genetically equal in every way, people will be fine.
I wouldn't classify selecting the best viable egg when doing in vitro, or discarding potentially bad ones as GMO.

Yep. Especially for intellect enhancement. Looking at the world today, we certainly need it. Plus major scientific advances have become almost non-existent. All the low-hanging fruit has been picked; now we need to get smarter to reach higher.

As I have mentioned a few times before on the forum I have a daughter who was multiple genetic disorders the most serious of which is Cystic Fibrosis. That genetic disorder comes with a life expectancy of 37 so the sooner they get this right the better as far as I am concerned for medical treatments. I am against it for the fluffy stuff or for the elite using it to gain further advantage. If stuff like making people stronger/smarter/hotter etc comes available it needs to be for the entire population or no one to not lead to war/revolution down the road.

Nope, nope, nope...
Unless we can make Adeptus Astartes in the image of the god emperor of mankind.

That is stupid.

You roll it out to people who can afford it first. Then since, it is a product with a demand like everything else, it will come down in price to those who can afford it.

Always wondered if we could make humans roughly the size of housecats, how big the world would be again.
Our housecats would eat us though...

I believe that genetics should be done only on animals but on humans if and only if it is safe to do so. I am afraid of adverse effects on humans

@rpm you like these controversial issues ne!

Anyways it's irrelevant whether we approve because it's inevitable and we do already.

If a company comes along and gives you the option of eliminating e.g diabetes in your fetus, few parents will refuse. Then it's a small jump to choosing eye colour etc.

not designer babies....

The medical intent will be to cure disease. They will do trials, and loads of people will die in the process. They'll start with the most serious disorders, like severe cancers etc. It's coming one way or another.
