Do you support the new 5 level coronavirus alert system announced by President Cyril Ramaphosa?

I wonder how these responses will change come 4 May and you find you are one of those who has to remain at home (with no salary).
Unemployed in my case...

Short of going against the world trend, what do you suggest?

In theory? yes, in practice? Depends how frequently and at what notice they could change levels?

If a business is geared to trade and then 2 days later is told to close for a week, that's problematic.

I'll use a restaurant as an example. Level 3 announced, I order in stock in anticipation of the business ahead. 2 days later level 4 is announced and I can't trade and am sitting with perishable stock I can't move.

I think that while the government deserves credit for acting decisively and quickly, in response to the virus, which has definitely reduced the probable death toll, and that their proposal to not loose the gains they have made in that respect is understandable - I think they are making one crucial error which is going to have very serious effects.

They should abandon immediately the ban on sales of "non-essential" goods and services - this is causing a cascading failure of businesses, which once that gets under way in earnest, might be impossible to stop!

As a business, you can take all sorts of precautions, adapt to difficult circumstances, work around issues etc. But there is NOTHING you can do, if it is illegal to sell your goods and services. Your income goes instantly to zero, while your expenses continue - no business can survive under those conditions!

The government should impose restrictions designed to enforce proper social distancing etc, but NOT stop any business from selling it's goods or services, and then leave it up to each business to make a plan on how to operate under those restrictions.

They need to do this IMMEDIATELY! Every day that goes by without that, is causing exponentially more harm, that is going to last a long time, many businesses will never recover.

Our economy has been destroyed already by the corruption and "transformation" policies of the ANC, before this virus even arrived, we can really not afford to kill the little that is left!

Restaurants remain closed across all except phase 1, so your hypothetical issue is a non-starter anyway.

From phase 4 onwards. It says gatherings outside of work restricted to 10pax.

Of course Adolf Cele will for sure interpret it differently and smack you down hard with his ironfist.
All of these rules/phases/etc assume people are 100% fine with ongoing social isolation/distancing crackdowns, pretending that people don't mind not mingling socially at bars/pubs/clubs/restaurants/sporting events/shows/homes/churches/weddings/funerals/etc for some arbitrary time-period.

It's all great to "get South Africans back to work" until it dawns on them that life sucks when you have nothing social to look forward to.

There's nearly 76k troops on hand to make sure you are 100% fine with it...

The fact is, if people don't realise that avoiding people is the answer to this disease, lockdown, crackdown, phases, be damned, the infection rate will go tits up right smart.

It's pretty easy to control yourself.
