the fluctuations are the killer. By the time you've pulled out your phone and scanned a barcode and the vendor gets the coins and converts them to currency they could either gain 20-40% or lose it... too volatile for a store to do business.
 
No, not currently. Lightning network will change this though.

The answer is elusive as I don't think any of us really understand BitCoin. Sure - you can understand the concept and technology. Sure - you can understand markets. But how these have combined created a creature we can't seem to wrap our heads around and this collective misunderstanding and speculation is another obscuring dimension.

Now my head hurts.
 
MyBroadband should reach out to someone like PayFast and ask them how popular Bitcoin has been as a payment method. No doubt a large number of their users have enabled Bitcoin payments seeing as you receive funds in Rands, the processing fee is low, it's non-reversable and there's no setup required.
 
Think i posted my answer to the wron thread. Sorry. Bitcoin will never work, only for those who started it. Maybe in about 50 years.
