For small bills yes, but the drastic fluctuations aren't gonna work for big transactions I think. Imagine paying R15k for an item, and 20 mins later it would have cost R15k. Never that thing.

Yes and it has been used quite a bit. All crypto currencies have been taking a hit due to the instability of BTC and the uncertainty of exchanges globally

That is daft, how do you get those currencies to start with?

It’s not daft at all, currencies are tangible, I can have a pocket of £s or $s, I don’t need power or a computer to have that pocket full of cash, if I was fearful of a solar flare type EMP event I could even carry those currencies as silver/gold $s or £s.

Tell me who would get to buy the bottled water when the electricity is off? Me with my gold dollars or you with your non-existent Bitcoin?

Did they just land up in your pocket or did you go to an ATM or bank which runs on power to withdraw? Or maybe like me you have a duck that craps currency?

There’s no law that says you can’t keep tangible currency in your house so wouldn’t have to run to an ATM or bank when the emergency hits (and most people do keep an emergency fund at hand), you probably shouldn’t be playing with buttcoin if you don’t understand that people can have banknotes or gold/silver coins in their possession and that should the electricity go off or the internet go down they can still buy goods with those notes/coins while you just have a dead pc screen to pretend you have crypto currency to spend...

I know it’s been more than 5 minutes since the post that started this, so here’s a reminder of what is actually being discussed.

a currency that relies on electricity and the internet to work

yeah that is definitely going to work

...so banks?

and every store's register or credit card machine?
