I don't have an air-fryer but people are so enthusiastic about them that I'm thinking about getting one.

Currently I do all my frying in cast iron pans and I am a huge cast iron fan. Not sure how easily I can move on: cast iron is part of my identity.
Much quicker and easier to clean in an air fryer

Just bought one today and works great so far.
Nice and big. Very simple to use. Very well priced.

We now use ours every day. It helps reduce power usage, optimises effective cooking, reduces the need for frying foods to almost nothing and takes huge amount of pressure off the stove.

Becoming innovative too with being able to make complete meals in one device ( Only catering for 3 persons).

The main criticism I have is directed at the manufacturers and suppliers. --- they FAIL miserably in the sales department. An air fryer requires quite a few "accessories" before it can truly deliver on its promises, which pushes up the capital outlay to double the initial cost of the unit. If you don't get those accessories then the uses are severely restricted. I can quite see why some will use one only a few times and then it will gather dust without the correct accessories being available.

It is dirty unacceptable marketing in my opinion.
Which accessories do you recommend?

I have a AEG Multifunction oven that basically does this including a very fancy microwave that does this. (I had to admit I only use the Microwave to well Microwave. Ceramic elements bleh). Oh and if you make popcorn in it, then everything smells like popcorn for 2 days.

But from the review, I would happily look at getting one. Actually think of getting one for my parents.

But what size is decent to bake a cake.

Because since electricity has skyrocketed and now oil, it seems like a def to get a small compact one but can bake a cake.

Philips seems to be the brand to go for?

What does everyone suggest.

No I dont need a Miele

No, takes up too much counter space.

Also a tiny tad concerned about what's been said about "cooking in air-fryers could produce acrylamide", although there was probably a similar doubt about microwaves when they first came out.
Hmm what oven do you have? Does it have a fan spinney thing inside that lights up? Maybe says Multifunction....

Then its the same thing. Just your oven is the big brother.

As for the pan.

Honestly you should watch the movie Dark Waters (based on my friend who is an attorney). Yip non stick isnt safe for you, still isnt.

And then there is baby powder. Billions of lawsuits (high risk of ovarian cancer for girls) but still clicks sells it like hotcakes. Peculiar.

So honestly. I dont think it would kill you any faster than anything else. ie your phone for example or your best buddy smoking.

What accesories are available and what is needed? We have a Kenwood Airfryer and I cant see where you would use accesories?

Go sit in the corner with @NarrowBandFtw
meh

to each his/her own, to me all of these are in the exact same category:
- ADHD
- gluten allergy
- having an MBA degree
- being vegan
- owning an air fryer

in all those cases it most likely isn't as real as people make it out to be, nor do I give a toss, and yet they can't resist jumping at any chance of telling everyone else they have it

For sure, I hear you and fully agree. One year it's don't eat butter, next year butter is the schizz.

Air fryers are great but curb your collective enthusiasm. Cooking every meal in the air fryer isn’t healthy. Do you want to look and feel 56 at 36?

Correct, only peer-reviewed science here. Anybody who believes anything contrary to what I say can **** right off.

Yeah that's the one I got, was on special for R1300 at Makro at the start of the year.

Fry’s.

This is what I am looking at and not the smart one as I have heard its a waste of time
I have the "smart" one, has the gold handle. Honestly not worth the extra money. After 2 batches of using it for frozen fries you just know the timing anyway.

Other than that - it's the best purchase I've made in months.

The only thing is that you need to watch your diet, we found ourselves eating much unhealthier when we initially got it. Just because it makes quick and perfect things like chicken schnitzels, crumbed stuff, etc.

It's also far superior to the microwave when it comes to reheating food.
If you braai a lot and often have left over braai, then even just for that it's worth it. Food tastes like it just came off the fire, rather than turning your perfectly cooked chops into condoms in the microwave.

Most ovens do have an air fryer option, aka "heat convection".
I would strongly suggest everyone to use that before buying a dedicated air fryer.
It saves a lot of time and electricity.

And with the basket air gets around the food... unless you one of those gross people who puts their food directly on the grill racks of the oven.
