Yeah, had one since maybe 2010, going on 8 years now.
So I mean we only use it for music, browsing, storing pics, some Excel stuff. Never used iMovies or Garageband.
I really like that's pretty much as quick as when we got it; starts up in a few seconds, generally all apps open up sharpish. Never had any issues with it crashing or anything like that (only thing we did have once was when it decided to try download the internet, that wasn't fun. Also once an Apple tech guy called saying our Mac was sending a bunch of error messages to them which sounded scammy).
I don't know that I'd recommend one to a friend unless they owned other Apple devices. Wife has Andriod and it's a pain to get stuff from her phone onto the Mac. I wouldn't have got an iPhone if I didn't have it (which is what Apple do really well - tie you into their ecosystem). It is pretty though.
If and when it packs up I don't know what we'll replace it with. We'll probably go desktop again though.

I've also realised I'm not the best person to respond to these questions - I don't have strong connections with tech companies and feel it's much of a muchness.
I do like our iMac. Might get anther one. No wouldn't recommend it to a friend.

Nope, have never used an iMac. Pricing has always been the primary reason I've not considered them, I've gotten so used to the idea that Apple is way too expensive that nowadays I just dismiss them as overpriced without even bothering to look at their prices. :p

lol no.
I have used a MBP for an extended period of time, and that is exactly why I wouldn't use an iMac.

Apple launched the new iMac Pro last night - https://mybroadband.co.za/news/hard...ches-imac-pro-the-most-powerful-mac-ever.html

Do you use an iMac, or have you used one in the past, and would you recommend it to colleagues, friends, etc?

I'm always going to recommend a Mac, so let's get that out of the way first.

My only reservation with the iMac is that it's a desktop. For me that just isn't a viable option. I've alway opted for a MacBook, preferring to run a screen if I need to. That caveat applies to me 'tho... For you, portability might not be an issue and if it isn't, the iMac is a stonking machine.
The Pro will be pricey when it lands, and that's before Core slap on their Apple tax... The sweet spot might just be the 27".

I use an MBP at work which functions well. New Apple Mac Pro is a thing of beauty, but costly as hell.

Yes I have a iMac, yes I use my iMac, a late 2013 one and I love it. I'll recommend it to others any day of the week. When it's time to replace it in 2 - 3 years time I'll replace it with another Mac, will see if it will be another iMac, but it will definatly be a Mac.

The iMac Pro looks awesome, it's way overkill for my needs though. With the price starting at $5K I read that a maxed out one will probably push $10K if not more, that means that R100K for a Mac would be blown out the water.

Yes I use an iMac. A 2011 model with a retrofit SSD. It's fast. Got a 20" FHD monitor attached to it.

Also have a MacBook Pro, but at home I find myself using the iMac more.

No but I would love to have one , price is unreasonable for now as I'm not affording one

Used them in the past and would gladly use them again if my company wasn't full of ****.
