Locally Waze, especially getting across JHB
Overseas Maps.Me for offline and the abundance of information.

Google Maps is my go-to even though I haven't tried Apple Maps in over a year, maybe it's time to give it a spin again, but I'm just so used to Google Maps.

Waze every day to work and back. For route optimisation and accident, hazard, police warnings.
I'm pretty bad at navigation/sense of direction so I use it the rest of the time as well.

Google Maps and Waze, I have more than one way to work so i check where the traffic is less.
I do the same. Waze sometimes to check traffic when going to work.

Use google search for places and get direction from the browser or sometimes takes me to google maps.

Prefer Waze or Google Maps, but unfortunately only Apple Maps works when my phone is tethered to my car via Apple Carplay

No because the battery life on the phone does not last long enough to complete any trip in JHB.

Only use occasionally on my tablet. Besides I have a DECENT GPS which is a far better device by far anyway for navigation.

Using an external power source isn't an option?

I have yet to own a cell phone that survives being charged by a car charger ........

been through so many phones that go fine with a car charger.
Plus i use it to play music in the car as well on long journeys with waze on , never used more then the charger was pushing out.
come to think of it i have a little double usb adapter, i bought years ago so it would sit flush in my old cards ashtray and allow it to close 1 usb is 1.1A and that other is 2.1A i use the 2.1A USB
Maybe get one car USB that pushes more then 2.0Aamp- i notice a lot of them pump out less then 1 Amp

Sounds like we have the same USB charger. I have a "whizzy" that I got on Takealot. Always use Waze in the car at least 1h30 every day, often playing podcasts and things over Bluetooth too.
